Okay. The question is, Does either SLI or Crossfire increase your proformance if you just use one port. Like for example if I get two gtx 660 and SLI them and just use 1 4k monitor or just use a standard 1080p monitor will it increase proformance if I only use 1 monitor plugged into 1 video card? Yes, No? I have herd it does not but I dont even know now like my brain is just blown on this part.

PS Apologize for the terrrrrrrrrrrrific spelling because I am half asleep and my head is blown from all the homework im currently doing.

Huh, Turn it? What do you mean?

in the driver settings you have to enable SLI/Crossfire

erhm.... You're supposed to use only one port for the monitor in an xfire/SLI setup. And yes, having two cards is more powerful than one but it's always better to get the single more powerful card.

yes it does increase performance, just look at any single GPU vs. that GPU in SLI performance tests.

It's just like one GPU can drive multiple screens, the performance of the GPU doesn't just travel through your display cable :P

Okay but no I herd from some people that SLI does not increase performance unless your using a multi monitor build. Is it true thats what im really asking.

no it's not true.

That is what the SLI bridge or the Crossfire module on a motherboard is for, to make it so the GPU's can work together

Not true.

But there are some cases in which SLI or Crossfire is not utilised at all, effectively giving you the power of one card. That reason (and a few others) is why people prefer to have a stronger single GPU rather than two weaker ones.

2x GTX 660's are faster than a single GTX 660.

I wouldn't recommended SLI'ing a 3 generations old mid-tier GPU and it will probably struggle with 4k, I would go with a current-gen mid-high end GPU for 4k.

SLI or Crossfire are not perfect. In some games they will scale very well, while other games will preform worse with a dual-GPU setup, and because of that I'd only recommend SLI/Crossfire to people with top tier GPUs.

Most 660 cards are 2GB anyways, so you wont have a fun time on 4K :P

Not to mention the games that just dont support or poorly support XFire/SLI

SNIP

SLI is basically just using 2 graphics cards instead of one, it doenst matter if its for one screen or more

Single 980ti one one screen

SLI 980ti on one screen =  better performance

If you add more monitors, like for surround gaming, you need more horsepower so having better graphics cards, or running SLI is required for smooth framerates at high settings

(Do note, SLI is not perfectly scaled, so its not a 100% performance improvement,, also some games do not support SLI and sometimes SLI can have a negative performance impact so you would have to turn it off for some)

Yea I agree but I dont really have the money for getting a new gpu but I can get a hold of another 660 if I wanted too but Okay, and I was just wondering whats a good gpu under 200 dollars with 4 gb of vram and a decent clock speed?
