Please help, unsure if used when it should be new

So I purchased an i5 6500 off amazon from one of their trusted retailer that fulfilled by Amazon, however when I opened the cpu I noticed the box was a little damaged but I assume thats because it was at the side of the box, anyway as I took out the cpu plastic case, the cpu already had some thermal paste on it, is this normal or is it used?

Please help

You should send it back and email amazon asking for refund or another one. I would not use that because it could have issues or break your hole system.

If they were selling it as an OEM chip they're just careless and didn't clean off the thermal paste. OEM would mean they had a batch of Dell/HP/OEM supplier machines, stripped them for parts, and took the CPU's to resell. The CPU's were once mounted in the machines, which is why there would be thermal paste.

If you pulled that out of a genuine Intel box that came with a factory fan, manual, etc. it should definitely not have any marks or leftover TIM.

I will buy it for a project if the price is right, and no one will need to worry about it breaking anything

What i do WILL kill it.

I like to kill hardware. In 2016 alone I have killed 20 Xeon 5160, and 10+ Pentium 4.

Yeah, send that shit back. They're probably trying to get away with binning them and reselling. People that lazy and stupid don't deserve your money.

Make sure you take lots of pictures and document anything you think it is important to use as proof. Keep all your receipts, shipping slips, etc. All the dates (and time) would be useful.

Do not ry to clean if the Thermal paste. Leave it as it, and send it back.

If you tampered with it, YOU might we blamed for it. It rarely happens, BUT it can.

Best thing you can do is leave seller feedback as well so people can know what they do. If it was truely a mistake and they take care of it, you can always change the feedback later.

Please though, dont leave seller feedback under the item review. Im sure you wouldnt but I see it all the time. People have problems with the seller and give the item 1 star and not the seller. So stupid lol
