Evga 980ti ACX 2.0 or Gigabyte G1 980ti

Zeinone

Hi LTT!

Basically what the title says. A store at my place has these 2 at a sale of roughly around 570USD, so I wanna buy one. I heard that the EVGA is a great manufacturer for 980ti's but also saw in some benchmarks that the gigabyte wins. So which one would you recommend. Aside from regular here and there gaming one of them will be mainly used for rendering, modelling and making stuff in UE4, so which one is the all-around winner?

At launch the G1 had issues with coil whine and fans being really obnoxious past 50% RPMish. I sent mine back due to whine, but I'm really picky like that.

I don't know what they're like now, but I'd have kept my EVGA 980SC if the Ti hadn't been released if that's any help?

I currently have a Strix 980Ti but it appears that I got a beast one because I don't have any issues with it at all. (According to others, but tbh most people don't have a clue).

Do you need the added IO that the G1 comes with? (The extra DVI)

The extra dvi, no, i dont need it. Two DP/HDMI is enough for my dual monitor setup.

Agreed, if out of those two options, then yes... G1.

Yeah I'd have to agree - take the risk on the G1, at worst you'll get a bit of coil whine and you have to manage the fans.

Performance wise they tend to be really good.

Also so bear in mind the G1s tend to be some of the longest cards you can get, so if that isn't an issue you should be fine.

i have two 980ti g1s. The first one was awesome. Did 1520mhz on air with very small voltage bump and i live at 10,500ft in elevation where air cooling doesn't work for shit. Could have gone further at sea level for sure. I put it on water and it does 1595mhz.

My second g1, pos. 63% asic wouldn't even do 1500mhz on water. Got pissed and put a custom bios on it and it now limits my oc to around 1525. Never bothered to find out what it'd do with the stock bios. Their binning process leaves something to be desired imo. These were my first non evga cards. Will be going back to evga for pascal simply because of their warranty.

i would say evga just because they have a better warranty and return policy

EVGA, so long as it has the ACX 2.0 cooler.

I own two of these, quiet as a mouse, reliable as dirt, running at nearly 1,300 MHz all day long and don't care.

I haven't tried the Gigabyte, so can't offer personal suggestions there.
