Has there been no new desktop parts coming out?

Looking at the linus tech tips channel its almost 4 months since they reviewed something related to dekstops thats not a monitor (the 380x) and the one before that was more than 5 months ago! (Nzxt s340 razer edition). So my question is have there been no new products being released like cases or ssd's? I know the polaris and pascal gpu's are coming soon but this is the tech world for god sake! There must have been something coming out except monitors and laptops for 4 months! Did linus stop focusing on this or has the release schedule been empty? And no the ld pc-v10 phase change does not count since its an old video they never got around to releasing.

Didn't you hear?  Computers are already perfect.  All research has stopped.

Well, Pascal and Polaris GPUs are right around the corner, and are supposed to be 3 times as fast as the current architecture. Just wait until it starts to be summery, there will plenty of reviews about that.

My friend didn't realize until today that his graphics card was worth $1000

nothing has really been coming out.

The last cpu to come out was the 6700k in august, and the last gpu to come out was the fury X/ gtx 950/380X , also around that time, and nothing interesting has come out since .

AMD Ryzen R7 1700 (3.8ghz) w/ NH-D14, EVGA RTX 2080 XC (stock), 4*4GB DDR4 3000MT/s RAM, Gigabyte AB350-Gaming-3 MB, CX750M PSU, 1.5TB SDD + 7TB HDD, Phanteks enthoo pro case

Well, next big time for mobo/CPU is summer. GPUs are usually coming at fall (I'd say). And rest isn't really that important. I mean they do see latest tech in CES and Computex. Most of stuff that actually might have interesting and new stuff is tablets, laptops. peripherals and VR.

By looking other tech channels, NZXT Manta is latest interesting case. CM MasterMaker Air 8 is latest interesting air cooler. There are some AIOs. Thats what most have been covering. Then there are minor things like cases, some PSUs, air coolers, SSDs, but nothing really major. And LTT reviews are crap anyways. Their most interesting stuff is related to applied projects and some more expensive or not-so-commong gear.

Linus just quit doing all those quite meaningless product reviews that are pretty much the same. It has to be something different.

Cases that you can buy here since 1st of January 2016 (in Netherlands),
SSDs,

Monitors,

PSUs,

CPU Coolers,

Motherboards,

RAM

(It's in Dutch but names are names..)

Case reviews can be so much more though.

It's one thing taking a look at the case, showing a few shots and pointing out the features and specifications from the manufacturer's info (which you can get from the website), and then being over in 5 minutes (including the complementary 3 minute sponsor spot).

They could go into detail about things that people who may be interested in buying the case could/would find useful such as spacings and supported confugurations with various components installed (for example you may find that you can't plug in the 8pin cable on some motherboards if you have push-pull fans or a thick radiator. That could lead into radiator support and watercooling(with testing), and moddability - pointing out certain parts of the case which could be used for other things etc... That can lead into taking apart the case and showing where to access/replace various parts, or do things like remove drive cages, where dremels are required and where not.

The big push over the next couple years will likely be the move to 4K displays and such.  But there's really diminishing returns out there, and not really a lot of reason to be excited.  Most people's i7-2600 they bought 5 years ago still works perfectly fine and adequately against modern standards.  Evolution, not revolution, is pretty much the name of the game.
