I'm building a $600 PC for a cousin

tomasesp

Hello,

I'm building a PC for one of my cousins, he wants to spend about $600 US dollars. He is not going to be doing anything extreme on it other than some LoL gaming.

This my pcpartpicker list for him.

Spoiler

1) i would add an SSD, if you can squeeze one into the budget without sacrificing on core components

2) i would change that 960 to a 380 for slightly higher performance, unless nvidia's features were needed

3) would recommend a better psu if you're going to overclock

4) use a stock cooler instead of a premium aftermarket one if you're not going to oc or do mild oc

-sigh- feeling like I'm being too negative lately

1. i will see if i can do the SSD, I had one in there a 120G one but it made it almost 700.

2. Which 960 would you recommend.

3. I'm not going to be overclocking it. Do you have a better psu in mind, I chose the one on the list because of the Watt to price.

Looks good. LOL isn't too intensive, so any real basic hardware should be fine, I got really good performance with a $100 gpu. I would go for intel though. The FX 6300 is good, but nix the cooler and go for a cheaper intel mobo, and you can get a powerful i5 in here, which will last him a long time, especially since even MMOs will get more demanding in the future. I went with a ssd in place of a HDD, small, but it sounds like it will be plenty of space for him as LOL is not a big game, and a HDD can always be put in later. One ram stick of 8gb should do, 16gb is optimal, but again, I doubt in LOL it would make a difference, and chrome is still solid on 8gb. R9 380 also, little faster in pretty much everything compared to the 960. I went with the Sapphire, Powercolors are cheaper, but I have heard mixed things and have never owned one. As for psu, went for a EVGA. A little more reliable than the CX IMO.

If you are not going to overclock use the stock cooler. Take out the Cooler and add in a SSD.

Spoiler

1) changed your cooler to a more budget oriented one, it performs well while costing half as much as the noctua

2) changed your motherboard

3) you can drop 16gb of ram to 8gb tbh

4) added an SSD and a better valued HDD

5) changed the 960 to a 380, it performs better, but you can change back to a 960 if you want

6) changed your psu to a better one

personally i would go with this build

since the cpu horsepower is much better than the 6300
