Should a noob buy Dark Souls 3?

DS1 was locked at 30fps which I could barely stomach to get through. DS2 runs at a solid 60fps and looks "OK". The Scholar of the first sin DS2 upgrade does add better overall visuals, plus DLC content.

The thing about the DS series, IMO, is it is a game that stands on it's own merits. Graphics and FPS is NOT all that makes up a good game. There are plenty of really good games out there that don't have the best graphics and this series is one of them.

So yeah, DS1 was an insult on PC but still enjoyable (based on gameplay alone, for me anyways), but DS2 was fine on PC. Runs at 60fps and this game is not about the graphics, it's about the gameplay/lore. ;)

To the OP; DS is a very different game series to most (IMO). It will punish you for mistakes much more so than most other games. You need to get good at it and be smart with how you approach it. If you have friends that have played the series and can join in with co-op to help you, that makes a HUGE difference. If you try to go through all on your own without help... well, all I have to say is; good luck. lol.

I'm on a 2nd play through of DS2 right now after upgrading with the Scholar of the first sin update. Very much enjoying it, but also being reminded again how this game hands your ass to you if you get too cocky or if you're not too careful.

So yes, would recommend playing through DS1 and 2 first. ;)

I dont talk about Graphics. Yes it looks dated, but my Main Reasons are the ridiculous Controlls. This piece of shit cant be played with m+k at all. I didnt buy expensive m+k to play with a fucking Gamepad. This Game should get downvoted to Oblivion and yet PC Gamers defent it. Weird World.

Believe it or not, some games are better/easier played with a decent game pad controller. I don't know what you have against game pads, but there's nothing wrong with playing a game on a PC using one. I have an Xbox one wireless controller and use it for a few games. (DS series, Witcher series, AC series and maybe a few others (side-scrollers etc.)). For the rest I use M+KB (especially for fps games (K70 and Razer Naga Epic 2014 edition - both not cheap)) and a G27 for racing games.

That's part of the benefit of PC gaming - we can use ANY controller we want. ;) You don't have to confine yourself to one specific input method.

I didn't buy an expensive M+KB to play on a game pad either. I bought them to play other games and because I wanted quality peripherals (mech KB for typing etc.). I bought the game pad to play certain specific games that work better with a controller, just like I bought the G27 because it works better for racing sims. Plain and simple.

If you didn't like the game, that's fine. But you can't expect all those who do like it to dislike it just because you didn't want to use a game pad. Like several of us have said (and like anyone who is a DS fan will say); the game play/controls for DS are much better using a decent game pad - just like it's better to use a M+KB for an fps game. Confining yourself to only M+KB restricts the overall variety of games you might play/enjoy, IMO.

Doesnt matter. A Game on PC without propper m+k support and XBox Tooltips is ridiculous. Thats why i will not buy Lightning Returns and i will not waste any more Money on DS if they keep doing this BS. Thats how i see it.

I would go one step further and say some games need to be played on their primary input method only.  For Example CS:GO any input method but the M+K is an afterthought.  And in the case of DS anything not a gamepad was an after thought.  I would argue a more traditional M+K RPG Control Scheme would break the game.  One of the key mechanics of the game is that navigating your inventory and menus doesn't pause the game.  The amount of time it takes to scroll through tabs and equip and unequip items is key to the game play.  It makes it inadvisable but not impossible to re-equip mid fight.  More hot keys across the top, or a cursor in the menus changes all of that.

Now the M+K controls are a mess in general for DS but when the developers want you to play with a gamepad why should they put the effort into a control scheme that the rest of the game is not designed around.  If game pad is not for you, period. then I guess Dark Souls is not for you.  But that is on you not the game at that point.

So I guess my point is DS PC Port was a mess, flakey, buggy and a pain in the ass to run.  And FROM deserves all sorts of criticism for that hot mess.  But the game is meant to be played on the game pad if they failed anywhere it was not just explicitly making it a requirement.  Though we all know how much FROM hates explicit instructions ;-)

So.. Arma 3, Serious Sam, and Borderlands are all the same :P

Hardcore Souls fans are going to jump down my throat for this, but I will say the basics of The Witcher 3's combat mechanics were not a million miles away from a really sped-up Dark Souls, at least when the former is played at the hardest difficulty. The emphasis on preparation, the damage model, and the fact that with good enough dodging and parrying you can win out-leveled fights… That was my thought when I saw the implication in the first post, anyway.

Yes and no, its still a very different combat style, dark souls is more abuot learning how each enemy moves, learning the pattern, and getting around for a backstab, as well as watching out for suprise attacks around every fucking corner

If you're worried about the PC port of DS3, apparently people are going to be playing it on Twitch as early as tomorrow, and I know that streamers like Maximilian will be playing the PC version.  So I'm waiting to see what the consensus is as far as PC port quality goes before I put any money down towards it.

Problem with that for someone like me is I don't want to see any of it before I play it. No spoilers etc. I want it all to be fresh and new experience. If it runs anything like DS2 I will be just fine with it. I run Vsync with most of my games to eliminate screen tearing anyways so I don't really care if it's locked to 60. lol.

I'm sure if there are major problems with the PC version while they play it on stream, the internet is going to blow up as usual with outrage and accusations, so if it's bad you will probably hear about it without having to watch actual gameplay.  I'm just glad that they are letting streamers play it for people early like this instead of pulling the usual "no gameplay and no reviews until it's out so people won't know they're buying a broken game"

If it's a mess, you're sure to hear about it one way or another. You can bet it's going to be under scrutiny after From's past history on PC.

Just buy dark souls 3, it won't play like the first two, it's gonna be faster paced like bloodborne, but waayyy harder, if you like a challenge get it, if you like easy games go buy call of duty or destiny

I recommend both if you can. They should be cheap by now.

You will need plenty of patience and to learn to be tactical. If you ever need tips or have questions, don't hesitate to ask. They are very unforgiving games and will not hold your hand. ;)
