What is the best Sandy Bridge CPU for the money?

Hey guy's and girl's just looking for a CPU to bring me into the next generation of gaming that does not require me to buy a new mobo. For reference sake I'll be getting a 7970 to pair with this CPU.

What CPU do you have right now?

I like the color scheme of Noctua fans. Deal with it. Forget about the bad memories of the past.

you can still buy Sandy online boxed but there is literally no price difference between Ivy

My current cpu is an i3-2120 and my mobo is a Gigabyte Technology Co., Ltd. Z68XP-UD3 (Socket 1155).

If you want to buy new I would go for a 3570K. I know it's not Sandy Bridge but it will work fine in a Z68 board like yours. However, you should be able to pick up a second hand 2500K or 2600/2700K which would be ideal.

If you can get a 2600K (or 2700K) on the cheap then go for it.  It'll outclass even a 4670K.
