Windows Update stuck at Checking for updates.

themoon123

I just installed Windows 7 and i have tried almost everything i could find. When i try and check for updates nothing happens. No network usage or CPU usage.

A part of the windows update log says    DtaStor    WARNING: Attempted to add URL *very long microsoft url*

This is getting very frustrating and i'm on the edge of giving up.

have you tried rebooting the computer. I am not trying to be a wise guy it is a ligitamate question. You could have an update that is hanging and if so you might have to update the pc one update at a time until you find the issue. Other than that have you tried windows 10

Stop the windows update service, rename the C:\Windows\SoftwareDistribution folder to something like "SDOLD" and then start the windows update service again. This tends to fix about 75% of all windows update problems

I'm on a horse...

Fixed it. Removed Ethernet cable and installed the newest version of the Windows update agent and that fixed it for me!
