I need help please with Dell T3500

Mo3geza

Hi guys...
I have just got a second hand T3500 with Xeon W3690...
I firstly ran a stress test, the processor temperature rose from 35 to 80s and hit 92 sometimes after that it remained in mid 80s
I changed the thermal compound..
At idle and web browsing it settles between 29-36 but when gaming it rises up to 61 and I stress retested it it settled in the mid 70s
the heatsink is very cool and it is even a little cool when the system operating (a new born baby can touch it), don't tell me to make sure that the heat sink is firmly attached because it is...
does the quality of thermal compound matter ( especially for a 130W processor ) ?
I am thinking about getting a new cooler (mostly water cooler) but I read that the market coolers are with 4 pins but my motherboard supports 5 pins coolers, Is there a solution ?
and what cooler should I get regarding the case size ?
I have attached the temperatures at the time of posting when 11 tabs on firefox, WordPad are open..
Please help this is driving me crazy...

Thanks everyone...

1) The thermal paste quality doesn't really matter. A 2$ Chinese one will do the job.

2) A new cooler is really not needed.

BTW Nice computer bro!

So what is the problem ?
I also noticed that the forth core temp is always higher than the others by at least 5
and the last three are generally hotter than the first three ...
I've gone disappointed ...

has the PC been jarred around allot ,, ? I mean if its been bounced around all that stuff ,, theres a small but possible chance that the heatsink  has  come slightly  loose or something which means youll need   to  take it out  re thermal paste it (  cleaning it first with alcohol  thorough it and the cpu ,,  then  applying  a a dot of paste dead center of the middle and the  heat sink will spread it down as  you   mount it ,,   remount it ,,, and  it might fix the issue ,, its either that or maybe you havent cleaned that heat sink in a while and its time for some TLC (tender loving care.) like mine was doing till  yesterday when I unclogged it from gobs of dust  clots.

edit: I overlooked your mention of replacing the thermal paste sorry.

I may give it a try, but I don't think that is the problem, Thanks...

I have no clue about that.

Maybe the sensors are a bit wrong. I mean these computers are several years old and there just needs to be something wrong.

No problem, but don't throw it just yet. Tho this is a prebuilt and it is old, it is quite decent even by today's standards.

But I do some keyshot rendering that requires 100% processor load...
that may be putting me again in the mid 70s or the beginning of the 80s...
and that's not safe at all I guess...
I just don't know what to do !
How it goes all the way from 35 to 75 or 82 at load ?!
too much disappointment here ... :(
