Giving Star Citizen a try...

So the game is currently free to try till the 20th. I'm downloading now, but haven't really followed the development too much and really don't know much beyond the fact that it was crowd source funded and it's a space game with ship flying and FPS elements.

 

Anything in particular I should know prior to logging in for the first time? Any tips to get the most out of this limited trial and help me decide if this game is for me?

I just went to their website and, even though I can download and play it free until the 20th, it's saying that I don't have a ship and that I need to buy one. Sounds like a marketing gimmick to me.

I recommend flying around a bit in Vanduul swarm testing out some ships and seeing wich ones you like. If you decide to buy the game, we have a great community here and we play every Saturday at 12pm pst. And if you have more questions about the game, you can go to the Discord channel link in my SIG.

That's odd, it shouldn't happen. Did you click the link at the top of the page?

Yes, I clicked on that link. I'm installing it anyway so we'll see what happens once its up and running.

Yeah, I don't have a ship either, figured they'd have some means of conveyance and/or I could hitch a ride with someone else. Let me know what you find. 

 

I've got it installed, but haven't played yet, and probably won't till this evening or tomorrow (busy day, just bought a new mattress and now the water heater went up and I'll probably be replacing it myself by end of day).

I've tried playing it about a year ago, but didn;t really have anyone to play with. if you guys are on discord next week I'll join in. Internet so slow so i probably cannot download it this weekend

We're pretty much on Discord all the time, but the 'scheduled' meetups are on Saturday. 

If you are able to, you could ask if anyone wants to play. There are usually people around with some time on their hands.
