I'm stuck with a crappy pc, any suggestions?

Over the past year I've;

  •   bought my first pc,
  •   DISCOVERED LTT!!,
  •   started gaming,
  •   tried to learn the ins-and-outs of computers,
  •   figured out my pc is utter crap.

Specs;

  •   base: hp elite 7000 mt
  •   CPU: Core i5 750 (LGA1156)
  •   Motherboard: MSI MS-7613 (Indio) (MATX)
  •   RAM: 8 GB DDR3

my problem is that i want to get a graphics card, but my motherboard's 1 PCIe slot would severely bottleneck anything substantial,

i can't just get a new motherboard, i can't find one that fits my cpu,

gpu>motherboard>cpu | psu | case.

at this point i might as well start from scratch.

Before i start saving up can anyone give me a cheaper solution?

The cpu is great for gaming! just a get a gpu that fits your case.

Just get a decent GPU like a GTX 750(Ti) :D The i5 is still kicking ass.

i7 6700k - 32GB DDR4-2133 - GTX 980

Here's a refresher on pci-e if you need one:

Any card that will fit in you case should do okay.

It seems like your motherboard only has PCI-E Gen.2, which drastically decreases memory bandwidth for any new cards that you can buy today. I recommend getting an LGA 1150 CPU and motherboard and re-using every other part apart from buying a new GPU.

It's not the cpu, my motherboard only has a pcie slot no 2.0 or 3.0 it'l bottleneck won't it?

Yeah, "crappy". Right. I'm using a Pentium E2180 (LGA 775, 65nm, 2.0gz) with 4gb DDR2 and a Dell TFX "200" PSU. +Radeon HD 4350.

THAT is crappy. Your PC is not.

But anyway, your mobo is not a problem. The ACTUAL problem is the PSU, which I bet isn't any good. Start by upgrading that first to a 500w PSU and you'll be ready for pretty much any GPU you'll be able to throw at it.

No it won't.  No GPU saturates PCIE 2.0 x16 fully yet.

@alta_lector It won't. I've been using PCIe 1.0 a long time with new cards (like the GTX 750) which are designed for PCIe 3.0 and I had absolutely no problems in terms of bottlenecking. Not even with my GTX 980 :D

950 is better and he should invest in a used CPU/Mobo an i5 750 is not capable of gaming, the 2500k is where you should be on a minimum for old gen, and a 9*0 is the very minimum. for i7's I mean

@Ronnie76 Nope. You can even game on Core 2 Quads, so the processor shouldn't be problem. Also, iff you just intend to play MOBAs, a GTX 750 will be totally fine. If @GamerzCentralYT wants to play fist person shooters, a GTX 9XX is the way to go.

I'm not sure about your problem, your motherboard does have a compatible x16 PCIe slot; and your case has support for dual slot GPUs.

You should get a GTX 750ti and be able to play games without problems.

Get something like a second hand HD 7950 or something (or a 750 Ti if you PSU is not super good), your CPU is still adequate for most games.

You can from that point on save up for a new PC.

Your processor can handle the GTX 970. It will start to bottleneck with a 980. Or you can opt for a GTX 770. The 900 series is literally just a revised 700 series.

Ryzen 7 1700 @ 4Ghz - Corsair H60i- 32GB DDR4 Crucial Ballistix Vengeance RGB @2933Mhz - MSI Geforce RTX 2080ti Gaming X Trio - 120 GB NVMe (OS) - 240 GB SSD - 5 TB Raid

I once repacked Breath Of The Wild and CEMU on the CemuPiracy sub for PC and now everyone asks me about it.

@Xerora But the 900 series is much more power efficient and doesn't run as hot as a GTX 770... This thing is like a furnace. And using it in an OEM case...

16x PCI-E 2.0 is the same as 8x PCI-E 3.0.

agreed. But if OP is limited by budget, seeing as he said "cheaper" the 770 might unfortunately be the way to go. @alta_lector if you get the 770 make sure you have optimal airflow in your case. He's right, that thing is a furnace.
