What will happen if I put a dedicated graphics card, r7 260x on a PCI Express x16 slot, running at x4 (PCIEX4)? Will it work? how will it affect the performance?

it will work fine and wont effect performance if it is gen 2 or newer on the mobo

My rig: r7 1700 @ 3.9/1.35v, 16gb ddr4 3200, assorted rando SSDs, hx 1050, vega 64 1650/1025

I'd say gen3 4x is fine, not so sure about gen2 being enough.

 

Feel free to link me some 4x benchies.
