Oh god not this again...

AMD: Cheap price/preformance

NVIDIA: Power efficiency/Technologies for Multi-GPU configuration.

The crown for best is passed back to back so there isn't really a clear choice. Right now, AMD cards are pretty cheap.

Depends what you are looking for, too few details. What price point?

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

Right now AMD. 7970 and 7950 are a steal, and R9 series is sounding really good.

Any other time, whichever gives better performance at your price point. Nothing else matters unless you really need PhysX or have a few favored titles optimized for either platform.

Sigh, if AMD really is price/performance everywhere else, then why the hell do they cost so much more than their Nvidia counterparts in South Africa?

(I know the answer is because we have literal amd FANBOYS that are willing to pay w/e for AMD)

NVIDIA: Power efficiency/Technologies for Multi-GPU configuration.

Power efficient  ? The whole nvidia 7xx series cards are absolute power hogs. It was a wonder that the 6xx series cards were power efficient cause nvidia has always made power hungry GPUs.

 Nvidia for power consumption

hd 7xxx and gtx 6xx series goes neck in neck at peak in gaming for power consumption. also amd recommends 500W psu for a pc with hd 7970,nvidia for 680 550W. the gtx 780 use more power than the best single gpu from amd. so based on what you state that lol ?

and lol now i remember the gtx 480 . nvidia for power consumption he says...

previous generations and (most probably) newer generations.

We don't know if OP is buying  a used card or a pre built or what.

Power efficiency- Nvidea

Price to performance- AMD

AMD currently has the fastest GPU on the market but that has 2 cores, Nvidea has the fastest single core GPU

There is something called POWER EFFICIENCY.

Take a look at GTX 770 or Radeon 7970.

So, how much power do they draw? Noted? Alright.

Now compare the performance.

Radeon 7970 loses.

Alrighty. So you say that after hardcore overclock 7970 can chase down 770 performance?

Compare power consumption of somewhat 'equal performance' 770 at stock and 7970 overclocked.

Who has higher power consumption for the same task to be completed in same time (frames per second in games) now? Radeon.

Not convinced? Take a look how much energy does a 780/Titan draw.

How much does a Radeon 7970 draw (even without overclocking)? And now compare how much can 780/Titan actually DO. The performance per watt is absolutely stunning.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

It's not fastest GPU on the market. It's just 2x 7970 on one PCB, that's 2x GPU in Crossfire.

7990 =/= fastest GPU. Titan is the fastest right now. 7990 is only a dual GPU solution, nothing fancy and no miracles. You can't crossfire 4x 7990 but you can do that with Titan.

So... If Jesus had the gold, would he buy himself out instead of waiting 3 days for the respawn?

that only two generations. also let's not forget that Nvidia's GPU Boost 2.0 and their drivers are amazing. Unlike AMD....
