I want to build a computer for star citizen and was originally looking at 2 980ti's for high performance at 3 x 1440p.

Would waiting on the new AMD and Nvidia GPU's be better? or does it take a while for all the binned models to come out for the best performance?  For exaple I wanted the Gigabyte Extreme Gaming 980 ti's, not the stock Nvidia 980 ti's.

I realize not much is known, and that they wont be anywhere near the 10x as good as current gen like youtube seems to think,  but I dont need the computer till prob June or so when Im in my new apartment and can set up an actual computer desk.  Right now I have wireless peripherals and a 700 dollar laptop plugged into a 4k TV, it doesnt even survive the hangar in star citizen lol.

It really depends on what you want. If you want 3x1440p max in star citizen max and 60fps+, you might want to wait a bit and prepare to spend $1200+ on GPU's alone.

Current PC: Origin Millennium- i7 5820K @4.0GHz | GTX 980Ti SLI | X99 Deluxe

well it seems like he is prepared to spend $1.2k on GPUs since he was considering two 980tis...

but yeah waiting a bit would get more performance for his money

the new GPU's are coming out around October. and honestly the most power cards aren't gunna be out for another year probably. i'd get the 980ti's (I REALLY like the Zotac 980ti's btw)

Those do look sexy.  Might have to reconsider although the RGB leds on the extreme gaming are super sexy too.

well they both use 3 fans

fans aren't everything bro. the fans can be totally loud. find an independant review. and the cooler itself can be completely diffrent. not being bias I just know that one is good. not sure about the other

If you need something now, and are talking about buying 980ti's I would just get them.  We don't know when the new cards are coming out, and we don't know what kind of performance we are looking at with them.  But what we do know, is that a 980ti is not going to just suddenly be a crap card once they do.  It's still going to be great.

I have a 970 right now, and I'm trying to wait.. I don't know if I'll make it til then before just breaking down and buying a 980ti myself, but for now, I'm trying.. lol
