AMD Regains Some GPU Market Share in Q4 2015

GPU market share statistics have been published for q4 2015-and they are looking good for AMD.

As most of you know, AMDs market share in q3 was super bad, with them only having 18.8% of the market.

Well, now AMD has regained some of it, and now is back over 20%.

Coming to the exact market share figures, Q4 2015 saw AMD gaining quite a bit market share compared to previous quarters. Their market share rose to 21.1% compared to 18.8% in the previous quarter which was mainly driven by aggressive price cuts on their Radeon R9 Fury and Radeon R9 Nano graphics cards. Holiday season deals also made up for a good increase in their Radeon R9 390X and R9 390 user base.

Part of the reason is probably because of price cuts on the r9 nano (we all know it got a huge one) as well as some game bundles and such that got more people to buy the r9 390, 390x, and fury GPUs.

AMD has really been struggling recently so hopefully this could mark them gaining back more market share.

However, with Polaris and Pascal launching so soon sales of the 300/fury line probably won't do much at all to help sales in the future. It's all up to Polaris and Pascal (for now) to determine how well AMD will do in the (near) future for GPUs.

I've never heard of Matrox, neither S3. Are they just failures as a company or do they have other products that makes them profitable?

They're focused on professional usage and powering big digital signs. Matrox partners with AMD and uses a lot of their IP too, so there's that to think about.

They target very niche and specialised markets.
