Grab an i7 2600 or 2700, and you're good to go as long as you're GPU and RAM is good

Check your motherboard model, some can support ivy processors.

I think they all support Ivy Bridge Processors if the motherboard has the appropriate BIOS revision.

ngl you really don't need to upgrade your processor, your current one is fine for most things (unless you're doing Cities: Skylines with 300k+ pop)

I'd definitely consider a graphics upgrade. What are you currently rocking?

Yeah, I'd definitely consider updating that first. If you're willing to go used and have a 500w power supply, the 290(x) is really good value.

If you have less wattage, perhaps something like a 770. That'll run on 400w easily.

Oh yes, easily, the 290/290x will run GTA V on high with your processor. I'd recommend getting ones with a non-reference cooler as those are noisy but apart from that, go ahead.

Look at your local eBay/Gumtree (UK)/Craigslist (US) and see if you can find any decent deals from there, you'll probably be able to find something.

That's if you're upgrading your processor. You should only upgrade your processor though if it's pinned at 100% constantly when gaming. However, I reckon that your graphics card is the limiting factor to more performance (bottleneck) in this case.

If you want performance, don't get the "T" sku, this is an energy saving processor.

Yeah its not too bad, I'd still suggest to go with Mug's suggestion and upgrade your GPU.

Do you have an SSD? If you're having problems with speed then i'd get and SSD first.

I'd upgrade in this order

1. SSD
2. GPU
3. Motherboard + CPU (Its a good idea to upgrade both of these at the same time as your motherboard is pretty low end)

Also any processors with K at the end means it is able to be overclocked. Unfortunately your current motherboard can't do overclocking either.

Most modern ssds are all really decent. I wouldn't get an ssd any smaller than 250gb. Personally I'm a fan of OCZ because of the price to performance ratio, but Samsung, Kingston (As long as its not SSDNow), Intel are all good brands.
