Z97 vs X170 system (for racing/flight sims @ 144 G-Synched)

JustaBug

Hi everyone.

I'd just like to know if these two systems will run Assetto Corsa, iRacing, and DCS, at 144 Hz, 144 FPS, 2560x1440, G-Synched, in a single monitor, and with TrackIR 5. Four USB ports will be required simultaneously, plus two for a keyboard and trackball.

Which system would you pick?

Also, can you tell me if these boards can use the M.2 storage at full 32GB/s performance, without downgrading the speed of the graphics card's PCI Express port? I read in a few places that some motherboards would only let the port run at 8X instead of 16X, if the M.2 slot where to be used at 32GB/s (or something like that)...

Thank you.

What's your budget? Also, you won't be getting 32GB/s speeds, you'd be getting about 2.5GB/s

I'd like to stay under 2500/2600€, excluding gaming peripherals.

Would you mind elaborating on the M.2 port speed issue?

Thanks.

144Hz? Checked

Nvidia? Checked

All requirements checked for a high clock speed issue. I'd look into how loud the Zotac fans are. And possibly a quieter one.

Anyway. I'd pick build 2. Don't know much about storage speeds. Oh and I'd recommend getting a SuperFlower or SeaSonic PSU since you still have a "?" there.

according to pc part picker if you get a motherboard like the z170-A the m.2 slot uses the bandwidth of a sata express slot. as there aren't any sata express drives anywhere just now you could use that motherboard without taking gpu bandwidth

I would pick the z170 pc with the z170-A motherboard if I were you.

with what, noise, temperature? Or something worse? I don't get it :(

I'll look into your suggested PSU, thank you :)

Ok, now I understand the "sharing thingy" problem, thanks.

Hmm the Z170-A is actually cheaper, too. Nice!

The 980 Ti  might idle at higher clock speeds when you set your refresh rate to 144Hz(typically 800mhz - 1000mhz). And this will of course lead to an increase in temp, power consumption and noise(depending on cooler) when you idle on your PC.
