Hey guys! I'm in the process of picking parts for my computer and I've decided to go with the AMD Radeon 7950 for my GPU. Any recommendations on which is the best one to buy? My budget for graphics is around $250 but I could stretch a little bit about $20 more at the most. Thanks in advance

don't get the gigabyte I heard it's really loud plis it's voltage locked so you won't overclock muchget a sapphire vapor-x or MSI tf3 they are voltage unlocked

I bought the MSI Twin Frozer for several reasons. It has extremely good cooling, although not as good as Gigabyte's. But, it does not have a voltage lock, where as I believe that the Gigabyte windforce does. So, it's extremely good for overclocking and being able to get as much performance out of it as possible. Also it has the same pcb as a 7970, which from reading, can give slightly better performance. I'm not an expert on the card but all of what I said, I read from multiple sources, which pushed me towards the card. Also, I've had it for over a month now and I'm loving the card, I have no regrets in the purchase!

if you can, stretch for a low end 7970 it would be alot better price per performance ratio even for stock overclocked cards

Rig: i5 3570k clocked at 4.4ghz stable/gainward stock gtx 670/ 256gb ocz vertex 3/ 2tb wd green/ zalman z11/ samsung 24x blueray reader/ benq 2411t 120hz gaming monitor

I'd choose a 7950 over a 7970 ANY DAY OF THE WEEK.

Price to performance 7950 wins., not the 7970.

There are some bad models to look out for, there are also no guarantees of awesome overclocking headroom.

But if history serves.... 7950's are the ducks nuts for overclocking headroom, and MOST will surpass the 7970 stock performance with NO trouble.

Of note - If you do not like tweaking or overclocking anything, then steer clear and get the best card you can.

I have seen 3 7950's on special today, $269, $225 and $285, all various brands, but all at a BARGAIN!

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

the voltage is only locked to 1200. ive had 2 of them and both i was able to get the clock speed up to 1200 mhz and mem clock around 1500-1800 mhz

My gigabyte card isnt locked, but I know its an earlier revision,ie: 880mhz core, not 900-1000 1.109v, mine rocks, 60*c @ 50% fan.

To be honest I should backup my bios and save it for the bios database on certain sites... 1.109 def V, and overclocks like a dream and is unlocked.

Another I bought for someone else,

Gigabyte 7950 has a 1000mhz core speed,...vcore of 1.256 default/stock, pretty high... sounds like a turbine and hits 75*c easily.

Steer clear of Gigabyte 7950's unless your keen to flash it.

The coolers that I like on the 7950 are the MSI Twin Frozr 3/ HIS IceQ X2/ Sapphire Dual-X/Vapor-X. I would get the cheapest one out of those coolers.

Cheapest one with a decent cooler: http://pcpartpicker.com/part/powercolor-video-card-ax79503gbd52dhpp

They're all pretty similar otherwise and aren't worth paying extra money for one over another.

Best 7950 IMO is the Sapphire Dual-X hands down. It runs incredibly cool, and is so quiet! Read some reviews about Sapphire, they're great.
