Silicon Lottery

Just won. Bought a new 6600k and overclocked it. 4.8 GHz at 1.32v with 46 ring, best one i've got so far. so now im keeping it and passing mine down lmao. that voltage is sweet

It's reasonable for Skylake. Max for Skylake is 1.52v, so 1.32v isn't that high.

uh, no, ive gotten 4.8GHz with 1.135v on a 3770k

the safe voltage limit on intel CPUs is 1.35v, so he is already extremely close to that

that is by far not a "win" at the silicon lottery

a win would be getting 4.8GHz with less than 1.2v

1.32 for 4.8 is great mate. if yours got better volts stable for 12 then you win.

me ive probably done 15 or so 6600k overclocks. my best one yet... i would never gl above 1.375...i sell reliability

That's actually a great voltage for 4.8ghz on a 3770k. Most people need around 1.3v

uhhhhhhhhh, max "safe" 24/7 voltage for Skylake is ~1.4v. "Safe" Haswell voltage was around 1.35v, but that doesn't mean you can't push them a lot further with the right cooling.

If you had a 3770k at 4.8 and 1.135v you should have held on to that like nobodies business. OC that thing to the max cause you've got a golden chip.

skylake can go to 1.5v? thats quite a jump from the 1.3v of previous generations.

Hell ya. Technically the recommended value is 1.45v with a custom loop type of cooling. For whatever reason the die shrink + new architecture allows the voltage to go a lot higher on Skylake.

Well, that sucks. Only thing I've seen on here close to that level of golden was a guy's 5960X that would do 4.8 at 1.25v. I want that chip.

Well, that's what Intel says is the max. Generally, overclockers seem to be staying at 1.45v or lower.

Intel's Skylake spec sheet says 1.52v is the maximum (Section 7.2.1)  http://www.intel.com/content/www/us/en/processors/core/desktop-6th-gen-core-family-datasheet-vol-1.html
