r9 390 vs GTX 970

Bliznipa

For my streaming/gaming rig (at 1080p/60+fps) and a budget of <1000$U.S. , I'd like some input of GPU recommendations. Obviously I'd love a 980 to but realistically that's out of my price range. I'm not really familiar with the differences of the r9 390 and gtx 970 other than brand. Opinions (or facts rather) anyone?

Thanks!

That literally makes no sense. His use-case is almost no different from any normal user's use.

@Bliznipa Get the 390, it costs the same, performs better across the board if not the same, and has more than double the usable vram. These days unless you're already heavily invested in the invidia environment, there's no reason to buy a 960 or 970. By invested I mean having a g-sync monitor, shield tablet, or absolutely require cuda for some reason

I guess I've only really paid attention to the reference cooler version of the 970 which is $380.

What is with the forums today. Guys, the 390 is the better card, it performs better across the board than the 970, if not exactly the same, ontop of having more than double the vram. He doesn't have a g-sync monitor, and doesn't use shadow play, there's literally no reason for a 970.

No, the 390 and 970 are 320-350, but the 390x is $370+

Op wants streaming- shadowplay- unless you know something I don't about the 390, I don't think it has shadowplay.

Plays.tv/Raptr, allows you to stream to twitch with virtually the same load as shadow play.

Shadowplay is an ungodly abomination  - tried it, it broke, moved to OBS

Where are you finding these $300 970's?  The only ones I see for that price are used or refurbished.

Wow. Yeah I don't get any of that. Let's not forget that anecdotal shit is worthless on any/every side though.

There are 3rd party applications much better than shadow play that he can use.

Vote for 390 here!

Use OBS/XSplit for streaming, and have fun. You can find 390's for pretty cheap ($300 USD, there are sales all the time.) and it's a better performer.

I used to be quite active here.

Get the 390, but, you can get near 980 performance with a 390X for a lot less than a 980, see if you can reach that.
