minecraft server being a turd

Ok im making a minecraft server and I can connect (via LAN) but my friends can't connect. It says "java.net.connectexception: connection refused: no further information" for them. How do I fix this. As far as I can tell all my ports are forwarded correctly. What am I doing wrong?

Its on another machine (IBM 8670-GX1), so i dont see why windows firewall would be needed

Is that the right local IP?

What is your server running?

Try adding your IP address to the server.properties or whatever it's called.

You can check to see if the ports are actually open using websites like canyouseeme. This is a good and quick way to tell if forwards are working without relying on the application and help narrow the cause down.

Ask if other people can connect. If they can't, then there's an issue with the server itself.

If you need any help with Minecraft servers at all ask me i have coded and made several as well as host a few my self Most likely go into server.properties and check what port is being used if it is other than 25565 then port forward that one then go to https://www.ipchicken.com/ and see what your external ip is use that instead if that is wrong then after all that possibly call your ISP

Yeah the port isnt open. Not sure why and I don't think there is a firewall I can disable

iptables is a firewall. Have you allowed the port through iptables?

No idea how to do that. (how do i do it?) I found a thing that might fix my issue though. http://www.minecraftforum.net/forums/support/server-support/1878816-help-people-cant-connect-to-my-minecraft-server?page=2

Not sure if this is still open, but I started up one of these just a couple days ago. Some things to check:

*Port forwarding IP for outting device is set to, well, your outting device.

*For vanilla, server.txt should have the IP and port entered.

*For spigot/bukkit, same as above.

*Firewall should be set to allow all ins and outs for Java programs.
