An Ultimate OVERKILL gaming PC for myself, is it possible?

vuem1

Hi guys,

I am planning to build an ultimate OVERKILL gaming PC for myself that worth for 4-5 years.

I wanna watercool it and make it run super silent, because I am a silent freak.

Well any PC you buy now will become outdated in a few years, and I feel this is a joke, as you should totally get 3 4K instead of all of that, the 4k displays will last you until the end of time.

I edit my posts a lot, Twitter is @LordStreetguru just don't ask PC questions there mostly...

Spoiler

What is your budget/country for your new PC?

what monitor resolution/refresh rate?

What games or other software do you need to run?

Wait for Pascal or Polaris cards. The change in the nanometer process is going to basically make the 980 ti obsolete.

What do you mean? Could you explain a little bit more? Do you mean that this build will not be overkill?

I shouldn't say that it will make the 980ti obsolete, but the new technology is worth waiting for this year because of the big changes. What I am really hoping for is VRAM stacking in SLI, so if you had 2 6GB cards you'd get access to 12GB of VRAM. But that's just a pipe dream and this point.

But they're changing the nm process that's enough alone because it's been years since they have. There's also most likely going to be cards with HBM 2 and possibly something better than GDDR5 called GDDRX. If you need something now, get like a 970 or just 980 ti or an AMD Fury just for fun.

But you'll want to get the 980ti tiered Pascal cards once they come out for maximum overkillage.

As in you can't have something excessive for modern gaming, the resolution can be up scaled, you can go to 160Hz etc. You see?

Your storage choice makes me cry.
This build is pretty much an underperforming overkill.

This isn't that extreme... I basically have the same setup from a previous generation minus the custom water loop. I think you will be better off getting a smaller case and PSU. Moving that thing will not be fun and you're really not justifying the 900D. I would look at 750D or 450D if you want to stick with the Obsidian line. I personally love my 450D. You don't need a sound card, the integrated ones are more than enough on modern boards. Also, do you not plan on getting a headset? You'll get much better immersion compared to speakers but that's your call. I personally love the Siberia 800.

The 980TIs will be fine, even with Pascal coming out you're not going to see a huge difference in performance until Pascal TI is released around June 2017.

your 900D setup may be left feeling a little empty on the inside for the components you are using...

preferably using a graphite series case may be better, giving the case a sense of fullness!

7200 RPM drives are the worst enemy of silence. Pick up the 5900 RPM 8TB Seagate Archive drive instead. Or, you know, two of them.

Like someone already mentioned, why would you go for harddrives if you want silence?
SSD storage is the only way to go here. I don't think you'll ever be able to fill all that storage space and just imagine how awesome a stack of Samsung 850 Evo's would look like. They're also more reliable and faster than Intel 730s anyway.

Also Trident Z? I thought you wanted to go overkill. Dominator Platinums are the only way to go.

Thanks for the feedback. What kind loop setup do you recommend to keep those components cool at all time? And will Cooler Master V850 do the job for this build?
