Undertale, rocket league+DLC, slime rancher (currently in early development), portal, portal 2, portal stories mel, garry's mod, scrap mechanic, little inferno, world of goo

 

Havent looked up the prices for each of these, but they should be around 100 bucks give or take a couple grand

Minesweeper and Solitare.

 

Can run on everything from Windows 3.11 to the latest and greatest Windows 10. These are some classics that everyone plays.

Athlon X2 for only 27.31$   Best part lists at different price points   Windows 1.01 running natively on an Eee PC

portal 2, cities skylines, gta 5, tomb raider (2013 version), bioshock infinite, rocket league. rocket league and gta 5 for online, tomb raider and bioshock for story, portal 2 for fun and cities skylines to lose 5 hours of your life at a time without realising it.

There is no universal list of need to have games but here are some of my favorites I no particular order.

 

This war of mine

Total war: shogun 2

Civilization V with all the expansions

XCOM 2

The Witcher 3

Project Cars

Dark souls (all of them)

 

Hopefully this will give you a good start. As for where to get them, well that is the true beauty of pc, you can shop around. Check steam, humble bundle, GOG, green man gaming etc.
