I have an ASUS X502CA and it's pretty much dead. I need persuasion that it is going to die so my parents will fund for a custom built one.

i have no pictures right now, but I will by 2morrow morning. Is there anything that i can do to extend the life of this machine?

i like trains 🙂

If you can, upgrade your RAM and get an SSD.

That PC runs a mobile Celeron chip - you'd be better off upgrading.

Primary Build: i7-4790 · 16GB Hynix DDR3-1600 · Sapphire Tri-X R9 390x · NZXT S340 · Win10 Pro · Seagate Barracuda 1TB T_T

Portable: 2015 Retina Macbook Pro 13" · i5-5257u · 512GB PCIe SSD · Intel Iris 6100 T_T

OK - an i3 is miles better than a Celeron, so you're probably fine with that.

Are you sure the RAM is soldered on as well? This trend is concerning. I'd get a Sandisk Ultra disk if I had a lower budge, and a Kingston V300 if I had a higher one.

Hmm as well.

What parts are dying? If it's the HDD, get a new one. If it's something that's soldered on I would suggest getting a new laptop and backing up the data as soon as possible in case of an imminent HDD failure.

no, but like what is failing

what is the thing that makes it look like "dying"

I'm getting a new PC soon anyways. Maybe I could plead for my parents to let me get a new PC quicker.

I'm very sure about the ram. The computer is so thin, a ram slot wouldn't work with a ram slot.

Ah okay. What's your budget though? I could make a PC Part Picker list for you

About ASUS, next thing we know, they are going to have a firmware update allowing all Intel cpu's to be OC'ed . Anyways, it's soldered on. I've looked at too many tear downs.

It's a bit complicated. I made this build. My little brother needs a new one too and if you can keep it under $1675ish usd, it'll be great.

1675 USD for both builds or just yours?

I meant 1575 and the following:

16 cores total

16gb ram

2 boot SSD

2hdd

you know what I mean. Make it similar

Umm you are aware that 16 core cpus are for servers and cost well over $3000 right?

But yeah I get what you're saying

I totally understand you. On Asus EeePC's and other netbooks they literally solder everything to the motherboard.

But I seriously have no idea what did you torture that laptop with when it's dying. I also have a netbook from about the same time, and it's working (almost aswell) perfectly, it has really low power draw (i mean TDP of the CPU is lyk 4W) but the specs suuck.

You can see them in my sig.

Athlon X2 for only 27.31$   Best part lists at different price points   Windows 1.01 running natively on an Eee PC

My rig:

Spoiler

Celeronator (new main rig)

CPU: Intel Celeron (duh) N2840 2.16GHz Dual Core

RAM: 4GB DDR3 1333MHz

HDD: Seagate 500GB

GPU: Intel HD Graphics 3000 Series

Spoiler

Frankenhertz (ex main rig)

CPU: Intel Atom N2600 1.6GHz Dual Core

RAM: 1GB DDR3-800

HDD: HGST 320GB

GPU: Intel Graphics Media Accelerator (GMA) 3600
