Alright, as I presume most of us already know, the combination of virtual reality headsets, motion tracking technology, and omni directional movement, is coming to fruition. How do you think this will pan out over the next year or two?

Virtuix Omni + Oculus Rift + Wireless Controlling

Personal opinion, it'll be the next big thing, for a little while, then people will come to realize, running around for 8 hours on a track pad, won't be fun. Don't get me wrong, it's a fantastic idea, and I'd do it on the daily for an hour or two, but I'm a hardcore gamer, like I presume a few of you are, and I'm in good shape, but I can't sprint for 8 hours on skyrim.

I believe the key to VR Success, will be finding a good balance between sedentary movement and actual movement for motion control. However I don't see how this is going to happen, unless done in a way like sword art online, where your consciousness is actually brought into the game.

So, VR Tech, Ye or Nay?

I think that argument is only valid right now because of the limitations of VR. Once sensory data can be implemented on the player, it would feel weird not to move while gaming. I guess it's like a version of motion sickness. Everyone hates sprinting for long hours but I think it'll be the inevitable outcome of VR.

I think it's going to be the next big thing, maybe not for sandbox games because I don't really like sprinting for 8 hours, but for games like CS or round based shooters, like cod or maybe even battlefield, it'll be cool, because it would be like playing paintball, or airsoft, people still love it, they don't play it 24/7 like a hardcore gamer, but for maybe a few hours running around playing some counter strike or battlefield, and I can assure you that it's going to be a better way of working out instead of going to the gym, or going for a run, I'd be like, I'm going to play some battlefield, and would make for a slower paced, more tactical gameplay, and people would be more cautious on game like battlefield because it'd would be a pain to have to literally run back to your position imo

I'm not referring to being sick, I'm referring to the fact most if not over 80% of america is obese, and the average normal human being, cannot sprint for 8 hours, or get tired of walking around. My opinion is gaming is for relaxation or competition, and maybe it's just me but I don't find going on a jog for two hours fun.

I like your perspective of it, shooters definitely give this a more viable area. I wonder if they'll start releasing badass looking sensor guns, instead of the cheap orange and gray plastic ones.

I get pretty bad vertigo while adjusting to almost any 3-D game already.

Imagine dying in a game and seeing your body fall down while your still standing.

Don't know why people are saying VR Gaming is a gimmick, it can change the way we play games as we know it.

Actually using your own body movements to help you within the world you are playing in has huge implications and it's here to stay, whether people like it or not.

This is exactly what I tell people when they say they don't like the idea of, plus it's a game-changer for esports, because us gamers would actually have a good argument when people say "oh a video game is not a sport" also it's would actually take a bit more than reflects and good aim to be a good team on a tournament of cs or whatever, you would actually need to stay in shape

It's probably a side effect of not moving like I mentioned. I'm pretty sure, even if the VR headset were tuned to your eyes and centred around your pupils like what optometrists do, you'd still get vertigo. My mom and a friend of mine can't watch gaming videos, especially FPS videos because of how fast the camera moves in relation to their stationary head. They get dizzy and feel nauseous.

Oh, I was only talking about it as an eventual thing that we'd all have to accept. What I meant was once we can feel and smell what's in the game, I predict that the "uncanny valley" effect will take place. Like in robots when everything is sooo close to reality but is not 100% there, it'll be the same for VR games. Everything is so realistic except...you can't run, or walk, which will make the game more unreal than if we didn't add on the extra sensory data.

I think it is going to be fucking amazing to have to run for 8 hours lol especially in a game like skyrim (which I've played and don't enjoy). Imagine running from one town to another and being completely exhausted and then here comes a fucking dragon, you have to make the choice do I crouch and hide or do I man up and fight it, and then having to like take breaks in the middle of fighting by going and running and taking cover. I think it is going to be awesome.

I have zero interest in VR because I have to wear something. its hard enough keeping a headset AND my glasses on. forget a vr headset Ill just build an eyefinity display and GG no need for "VR." to get that perspective.

Of course I wont have that ultra realism but I have little interest.

However I am interested in the rift for creating an ultrawide display aspect ratio to simulate eyefinity surround, so there's only horizontal view movement.
THAT I would be interested in.

I rather spend the money on something else then those machines, and be hoenst after 15-30 minutes playing you got no more energy to walk your character so that means you're just gonna sit down in spawn till you got energy again, run for 5 more minutes and then lay half dead on the floor because you're too tired?

Also the Oculus Rift is nothing for me, my neck would hurt I rather wait for full VR or nothing at all.

I think it's just a gimmick. It seems like one of those things we'll laugh at in 5-10 years. But the Oculus Rift could be the Lisa of Virtual Reality and maybe (hopefully) progress into a much better, more realistic product.

If I buy an Occulus Rift you can be sure as hell ill use the hell out of it. As long as it can get high enough of the whole "feasible VR" thing then it'll be epic. One day COD and Xbox will have Rift support and its just going to utterly explode.

I think that if a gamer can invest enough money to buy an omni and motion tracking then he can get the stamina to play a game. A game like Skyrim is feasible as long as you can sit down in the Omni and relax like in game. I don't need why a rotating bench seat couldn't be added...

In short, I'm all for VR. It's going to change everything.

On another point, if you had all those larger gamers begin to play on Omni machines and stuff, it could be the 2nd best thing in the world to workout on (first being outside in actual nature). I wouldn't get bored of running around as master chief blasting aliens and I wouldn't get a negative view on working out if I had that thrill of playing a game. I then get a thrill of having a workout too.

Damn this is actually a same idea. If you think about how much a treadmill for home would cost spending a bit more for an Omni would be totally worth it.

Even this! Use the Rift on your treadmill and have some sort of never ending running game like a forest or you're running from undead or something.

See, VR is the future.

Waiting for someone to comment on the adult entertainment of VR...

i love the idea i love the concept i love everything about it, but in all honesty it's probably something i wont be bothered with putting on after i have used it for a while .. sad but true. Then again maybe not as they will keep finding cool ways of implementing and taking advantage of it, we will just have to wait and see.

I like where it's going, but I want to see it advance further, to full VR, where all senses are simulated (basically Sword Art Online) and the characters are controlled through the player's consciousness. Of course, the remaining 3 senses will require some kind of connection to the nervous system to be able to properly and accurately simulate it, which will also require intensive research to determine just how the nervous system works, and the right signals to use to activate different senses.

This is actually one of my interests for a career field, as I'm a college freshman I'm not exactly sure what I want to do yet, but combining coding along with the nervous system would be fantastic. Also a little dangerous and as for the ethics of it.. well yeah :/ then you run into people who want to live in the world and never leave because it feels so real and all that n such. I think it's a great concept, but we'll all get bored of it, or be too tired to use it.
