Why does Windows 10 track you

Joshuabishop4

Why does windows 10 track everything you do if you pick express settings, your computer is a node now sending everything to Microsoft, is the rest of windows going to go this way?? I think this is why it is a free upgrade so they can track more people.

Because they can sell the information to advertisers and get more money. There are other reasons, but that's the main one.

Windows 7 and 8/8.1 essentially do the same thing. It's mainly anonymous usage collection, which pretty much every program does.

The Windows 10 spying has been blown way out of proportion. If you don't want any of your data to be sent to companies, you might as well stop using the internet completely. Google will know more about you than Windows 10 will send to MS.

I like to think Microsoft is not plotting to steal everyone's identity.

They are simply gathering data to improve the user experience.

EDIT: And yes they sell it to advertisers. Which I'm ok with personally.

It's so they can sell your data to companies willing to pay, it's called "big data" adverts will be tailored specifically towards you ect, stuff like that, they can make a nice profit from it too.

I've heard most of this is for targeted advertising and for improving future windows versions.  However, all this information is able to be bought by companies willing to pay a high enough price.

Keep in mind this is bulk data collection. They care about demographics; they don't care what you are doing, they care what huge swaths of anonymous users are doing. It would cost a ton of money and man-hours to single out millions of individuals in that data pool by name, and there is nothing to gain from doing so except potential legal risk.

You cannot be so sure because you dont have access to encrypted data which is stored on their servers. Nobody have idea what they are collecting so i cannot believe by their empty words... Trust us,we are good guys from Microsoft...we are making billions of dollars but dont worry..ahha

Let's say Microsoft collects all data about you. I hope we can agree that they won't steal someone's identity.

What's so bad about them having data about you? Which they promise is anonymous anyway.

As Linus has said in the past it's all about providing a better experience for the user, in order for a machine to do that it needs some input about the user. You can either answer a questionnaire when you install your OS and build a half-assed profile or you can let your computer learn about you and provide a more involved experience (MS opted for the latter because they actually care about their clients, otherwise they wouldn't go through so much trouble trying to make your OS work better for you). If you don't want to user experience you can disable things but for people who want/need it then it's there. I believe it should be an opt-in vs opt-out setup but I don't lose sleep over it and the people that do should be using Linux.

I can't say I'd be against more transparency and oversight. But to be able to call up any specific individual user's name, address, medical history, and pornography habits from a pool of millions would require a staggering amount of technology and manpower, and meanwhile that sort of information is of no real benefit to Microsoft. To think they're doing that requires too far a jump in logic for me to be worried about it.

If this data is collected for marketing reasons, the last thing they would need to do is identify you personally. There's no such thing as an individual in marketing, the whole point is to target as broad a demographic group as you can.

People need to stop blindly believe their PR and marketing do you really believe that somebody as greedy Microsoft would really admit that they are spying ? They will always give some excuses and lie until last moment.

Because it is not in their interest to say different and to lost windows 10 users.

Tell me do you have access to their encrypted data? NO.

I dont have ,you dont have only Microsoft have access.

What improvement in system experience they have beta testers, they had released this win 10 for almost one year already and still has many old bugs not fixed.

Win 7 did not have anything of this and it was amazing, and great support

They have special software and if they want to track you as individual they will do that very easily.

I do not allow a single kilobytes of data to be delivered thats why i had created ultimate method for windows 10 privacy.

It can be used to sell data to many marketing agencies who are interested about massive amount of users, there is no worthless information. So they can release some product and improve sale. Thats saves a lot of time and make business chances better

Untl we recieve COMPLETE AND TRANSPARENT data report about encrypted data you can only quess and defend greedy corporation for no reason. Nobody has earn billions dollars on fair way, ever

From your "EVIDENCE MICROSOFT IS SPYING" avi, you have Google Chrome installed, perhaps actually running.

You don't use any Google services on your phone? Tablet? Anything? Microsoft isn't the only one gathering data, and I'm wondering why you're so caught up on only them.

I have to ask, is there something specific that you're afraid might happen? Maybe there's something potentially damaging that you think they're trying to do with your info? Or is this just on principle?
