Gaming Headset and Sound Card

LibertyBaller

Hello,

I'm a heavy gamer on the PC and I'm looking for a better sound setup. I don't listen to much music on my gaming rig so I'm not worried about that. I really want it for games like Battlefield, Planetside, etc. to enhance the experience.

I currently use Turtlebeach Z11s with the onboard audio from my ASUS Sabertooth 990FX R2.0.

I don't know much about the specs of audio and of that sort.

Headsets That My Friends Recommended:

Astro A40s (2013 Ed)

Razer Megalodon

I prefer headsets with a mic but if it doesn't have one thats fine because I plan on picking up a Blue Snowball later anyways.

For sound cards I'm wanting to go with the Xonar series by Asus but as I said I'm not sure which card to get because I'm not fimilar with this stuff.

Thanks,

Jordin

I'd either get a Sennheiser HD--- headphone in your price rage or the Audio-Technica ATH-AD700X(they supposedly have the best positional audio you can get)

Headset without a mic is called headphones, in my opinion go for the Snowball mic and headphones like Sennheiser HD's or something

Unless if you really need that blue snowball for recording then I suggest you get a modmic because that blue snowball will not only pick up your voice but everything around you.

you're better off with headphones and a mic over just about any headset.

ad700 and HD558's are my typical recommendation for gaming.

Will work for electronic components and parts

I am going to get the Sennheiser PC360, BF pros say it has good positional audio, as opposed to those gimmicky surround ones.

I would say get audio technica ath-ad700's with a zalman clip-on mic. It's like 100$ for both and you can pair it with a fiio-e something headphone amp, all together maybe 140$ and it'll woop astro a40's ass.

I previously had a50's, and I replaced them with ath-ad900x, there's no comparison.

How are the z11's?

They're pretty good for a low-end gaming headset. For $30 bucks its not bad but they're not a great build quality.

I'll look into the modmic, I do record but if the modmic sounds good I might just pick one of those up.

Interesting, thats an awesome feature to have (the positional audio). Hows the mic on them? assuming it has one.

I am going to get the Sennheiser PC360,

I've read the sound quality is about the same as HD555's

and in the US market the HD555/558 is cheaper, even after buying a mic.

Yup it's there, a normal boom mic, the problem with these is they are pricy. ($170 on Amazon)

If the headset and mic are pretty good, I wouldn't have a problem with that.

Well then you shouldn't be dissappointed, many pro gamers use them not just for great positional audio, but for the comfort too, I never had them on my ears, so I can't say. Did you say you want a sound card too?

Yeah, I was looking into the Xonar series from Asus but I'm open to recommendations.
