PCIE HDMI In Card?

Burusutazu

I plan on buying a Wii U sometime soon but I have been trying to figure out what I will do for video and sound. I would really like to be able to just plug the hdmi into my desktop using a card and it would display the video and audio on my computer. I could plug it into my monitor but then I would have no audio, and if I did want audio I would have to pull my desktop out to plug the sound cable into the Wii U. I have an old 720p tv that could output sound and video but I really want to use my 1080p monitor since it has better color and resolution. So my question is, is there an inexpensive pcie card that can just take the hdmi signal and display it? I know there are expensive capture cards but I'm not really looking to record it, just display it.

Dunno what monitor you have, but I've been using my audio pass through on my monitor.  Essentially HDMI to monitor, audio out on the back of said monitor to a set of speakers.  Works well enough.

It's just the monitor that came with my prebuilt HP Desktop, it only has inputs.

Look's like that would work but it's more expensive than I would like. Oh well, if thats as cheap as it gets then I'll just use the TV xD.

I guess I should mention, this would only be for when I'm living in my college dorm, back home I have a full size 1080p TV.

Well if your just using it at college, and depending on which games you wanna play, you may not even need a TV at all, the gamepad may be more than enough

Unless the games are in 1080p then you wont really notice, and 720p on a TV (at a distance) is still reasonable sharp

NOTE - most capture cards do not display the video in real time, there is often a few seconds of lag as the video is processed by the capture hardware

Well I sit in front of this little tv at a desk so I can notice, I will just live with it.

you can probably plug an extra hdmi into your monitor, most monitors these days have more than one hdmi connections.

Nope, only has one, but this was not the reason I asked this question. My monitor cannot get audio through hdmi.

Well for audio the gamepad has both speakers and a headphone jack, so audio is covered there, and again video can be done via the gamepad itself

Can't you just plug the hdmi port from the wii u into your monitor? If your speakers are not plugged into your monitor then you could either do that temporarily if you don't like using that normally. (or connect to the wii u)

In any case I don't see any reason you would need to buy additional equipment.

Monitor has no speaker nor any outputs for sound, and I'm in a tight college dorm so pulling my desktop out and unplugging the speakers everytime is out of the question. My TV will work fine for my needs till I go home in the summer.
