That's all well and good, but I'm still left wondering what prompted this comparison...

I could understand if you were asking about dual 390X or single 980ti (still the 980ti, by the way), but comparing dual-390X to dual-980ti? There's no comparison in performance or price...

4K, wait for the new cards. Nothing out right now is meant for 4K.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

In addition, if you're going nVidia their cards aren't exactly optimised for DX12 either. Wait for Pascal.

Wrong, really wrong, getting tired of this misinfomation. The benchmarks have shown otherwise.

Source? From what I've seen a 980ti a 290x are pretty much neck and neck in DX12. Perhaps it's old benchmarks on old drivers, feel free to enlighten me.

Give me a sec. They ran ashes before Nvidia released the asynchronous shader software. So there are benchmarks that are WAY off. I'll post the most current in a minute. Away from my rig

For future reference, never ever ever choose a lower tier GPU because it has more VRAM. It wouldn't matter if the 390X had a megabyte or a terabyte, it's still a lower performance card.

Here we go. Most interesting thing is how the 980ti and Fury X work together. And remember this is reference speeds, overclocked the 980ti smokes the Fury X.

If money's not an issue, get the 980ti's, but if you want to save some cash get the R9 390x's.
