Direct Ethernet Connect

Go to solution Solved by Sunshine1868,

Yes, after you've configured it properly.

You can't just plug two computers into each other and expect them to start talking.

I saw linus said he was connecting 2 systems together with 10 giigbait nics directly how does this work?

As long as the NICs are (manually) configured within the same subnet (same network address with same subnet mask) then the computers can communicate without issue between the two. (most modern NICs will auto configure the communication protocol once they "know" of the other machine)

There is quite a bit more to it; feel free to DM me if you'd like a more detailed explanation

ESXi SysAdmin

I have more cores/threads than you...and I use them all

You'd need them to share files over the network.

The basics of it is that you have created a completely separate LAN containing only the two machines. So sharing over that separate, 2-PC LAN is what's going on.

Oh OK, so it will appear in my list as a network device? Like my current nas?
