Stop the Windows Update service from "services.msc"

Then go to C:/Windows/ and rename the "SoftwareDistribution" folder to "SoftwareDistribution.Old" (If it gives some error, try to stop Windows Update service again) and then restart the PC.

Then try to check for Windows Update.

It should work.

Let me know the result.

Intel Core i3 2100 @ 3.10GHz - Intel Stock Cooler - Zotac Geforce GT 610 2GB Synergy Edition

Intel DH61WW - Corsair® Value Select 4GBx1 DDR3 1600 MHz - Antec BP-300P PSU

WD Green 1TB - Seagate 2.5" HDD 1TB - Seagate Barracuda 500GB - Antec X1 E.

Just wait.  I've seen it take close to 2 hours on a few PCs, including my own.  Windows Update is just a mess.

My mom didnt use her laptop for 4 months. Should have a crap ton of updates right? Well the only ones were a handful of optional updates. I installed those. She said when she went to shut down, it decided to install the updates then. So yeah, sometimes its a pain in the ass. Some times it takes it time to find the updates.

I just want to sit back and watch the world burn.
