Hey everybody :)

Just a quick question about graphics cards. Currently I have a 2GB GTX 960, and I was looking into upgrading to a 980 TI or a TITAN X. However, I then thought about Pascal, and how better graphics cards are likely to be released.

 

The question is, does anyone know how long away Pascal's release is? And would it be worth waiting to buy the new titan if it comes out?

I would say wait.... If PASCAL turns out to be shit then all of the 900 series GPUs will be cheaper so you could buy the 980 or titan then. If PASCAL is amazing then you may want to buy one of the newer cards. If you think you need it desperately then yeah, upgrade now but if it isn't urgent then I'd say wait.

We don't know anything.  It could still be in testing for all we know.  I'd look for it to be released any time between July-November of 2016.

I'd say wait, a 960 is fine for everything that's out right now. Don't buy the highest end card right now just for something better to come out in like 6-7 months and make you regret buying right now. I was considering buying a 980ti since its tax refund season but I've decided to wait and just buy a 390x instead then buy the best thing released when pascal is released later this year. Then again I also upgraded from a 760 so it was still worth it for me.

personally i would wait

even if pascal isnt that great you will be able to get 980tis for really cheap used

With technology, waiting longer will usually always allow you to buy something either better for the same price, or the current tech at a lower cost. So it really comes down to a personal cost benefit calculation.  I debated the same question very recently, and due to my particular circumstances, it made much more sense to purchase a 980ti.
