First mid-budget gaming build

Yaanst

Hello all !

First time poster as well as first time builder here.

I am looking for feedback regarding the choice of components (and also suggestions if some fit better or if I "get more for my bucks").

My budget would be around 750-800 without any peripherals.

I plan on gaming at 1080p, as well as doing some CPU intensive tasks from time to time (not very often though).

The current build list is based mostly on Amazon France prices, but I can quite easily shop in Spain, France and Switzerland if you find better prices/deals/etc..

So here it goes: http://es.pcpartpicker.com/p/gm6HwP

I am looking forward to reading your feedback! Thanks in advance

What exactly do you mean by cpu intensive tasks? Like rendering? Or what?

I mean cryptography tasks such as hash computing for example

In a normal gaming task I would say Intel, but I'm assuming more cores then means better for you so fx 8350 would be solid then.

Also the amd r9 380 and 380x outperform the gtx 960. Go with whichever your budget allows

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Hello all !

So you absolutely need the 8 cores from the 8350? Becuase an i5 will be better for gaming.

otherwise you're going to probably want an 8320e, they overclock decently and will use less power on average, and you're going to want a 990/fx board over a 970 board for a more stable system.

and the 380 is faster overall than the 960

also this build even costs less, so probably upgrade the RAM to 16gbs

More cores is interesting for those tasks but since I will not be doing tons of them, I can easily settle for waiting a bit longer until they finish.
Which Intel CPU would you have recommanded me ?

Went with a Xeon with its hyperthreading, which will do well in CPU intensive tasks and the R9 380 which easily beats the GTX 960 in most games.

Most prices are based from Amazon France:

Like $10 over budget, but a very good upgrade.

Ya, that the Xeon 1231v3, single core is going to be better, multi-core is probably on par with an FX 8 core, but the FX chip needs to be OC'd to something like 4.5ghz or higher to have a chance, and it's going to use more power as well, it'll just be cheaper

Those builds look good. I will definitly get the R9 380(x) rather than the 960.

I have a few more questions, isn't the Xeon a bit "overkill" if I want to do those CPU tasks not often (for sure I will be happy when running them ^^) ? and how would the upgradability of the system be ?

Not really, it just gives you more performance overall, if nothing else then get an i5 4460 instead, but you might as well spend the extra money for the performance when you need it.
