Hey guys, heres my build: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/L4sMLk

this thing is serving me well but i'm a content producer (specifically editing and rendering videos) with gaming and livestreaming on the side.

I want some faster render times.. I was considering upgrading to X99 but its going to be like $900 for me and i'm not too sure. If I do it'll be in quite a while.

but I was wondering if there's a Xeon (6-8 core) that could serve me well with rendering videos faster as well as a bit of gaming.

Note: I'm considering upgrading the motherboard/memory as well so if skylake has some better options let me know.

The E5 2670 8 cores 16 threads at 2.7GHz base 3.3 boost (I think) it goes for about 70 US on ebay.

My Work in Progress PC http://linustechtips.com/main/topic/522048-xeon-build/ <-- That PC was built but never booted:(

My Work in Progress PC 2.0 https://linustechtips.com/main/topic/540583-xeon-build-20-code-name-xenox (Hopefully this one boots.)

Is there multiple variants of the E5 2670? This is not the E5 2670 v3, is it?

Did the samples come with unlocked multipliers like some of the old samples?

No, but in the past some engineering samples of chips have been unlocked.

no, not yet

Says they also run on socket 2011. Not sure why I kept thinking they use a different socket. 2 of them for $300, that's a huge deal even for ES samples. Retail ones goes for $6,500 a piece.

i wonder if I could find a dual socket board and pop in another 4790k in there...

EDIT: or I could just pop in my extra Pentium G3258 and have two more cores!

You can't use SMP with core series processors , only server hardware ( ie you can't use two 4790k's at the same time )
