Blower fan

Okay so i was originally going to go for a Sapphire R9 390 but there's a weekend sale where i buy my parts and they have a GTX 970 for $349. Only problem is that it's a Gainward card with a blower cooler. How much hotter/noisier will a blower cooler run compared to regular fan coolers?

Hotter? Eh, I mean, it's only a 970, so NBD there, noisier? yeah, but it's $349. Is it worth it to get the same performance at a higher cost? That's up to you. If you're doing anything higher than 1080P though, I'd go 390 because 8GB vs 3.5GB

in general day to day use my 680s are not bad. if something is REALLY pushing them it will amp up the fans but if you have headphones you wont really notice, even then its pretty seldom they start getting as loud as they can get.

I bought a reference GTX 970 with the NVidia reference cooler and it's silent. I thought it would be louder but it actually does a really good job dissipating heat.

Yeah but the Nvidia reference cooler is aluminum(?) and this one is just plastic. I don't know if that will make a big difference. I guess i'll  just try it out at $349. I'm not that worried about the temps, just the noise.

If it's plastic then I had a Zotac 760 that was too and yes it is a bit loud. For my card it wasn't an annoying sound just that louder wind noise because the fan has to push air that much faster under load.

Blowers are fine if the GPU is not a 290 or hotter!
