Help me decide between 8GB-16GB or 3000mhz-4000mhz

Hi,

I can spend $100 for memory ram, but what is better:

1. 8GB 2133mhz / 8GB 3000mhz
2. 16GB 2133mhz / 16GB 3000mhz or above

? (the price is almost the same)

16GB is better, but if is not needed don't waste money on it (of course, now a days it often is). Ram is ram is ram is ram. Get what is cheapest and will not die.

16gb is the current sweet spot. And unless you are doing some intense productivity, the speed of the RAM won't make a difference

You most likely don't need a 16g kit it is just too much unless you are doing extreme multitasking.

1. Amount of memory
2. Number of sticks/channels
3. Speed
4. XMP enabled (for speeds over cpu rating)
5. Timings

i have always 2 games opened, like 10tabs in chrome and adobe suite opened...... DDR3 but i will sell my desktop tomorrow.

DDR4 is cheap, so....

 

2x4GB 2133 8GB for $50

or

2x8GB 3000 for $84.99

As I said before, get 16. Get lower speed and maybe even more. Long story short is that 16 is the sweet spot for modern high end pcs

Quantity makes a difference. But performance should not suffer significantly given the described mix if one has an ssd system drive and swap file enabled.

In gaming no. In fact in gaming there does not appear to be any significant performance difference between 2400 and 3200.

In gaming no. In fact in gaming there does not appear to be any significant performance difference between 2400 and 3200.

yes i use a ssd for windows.

If budget is unlimited, get the highest speed supported by the motherboard.

The lowest speed. Unless you plan on extremely intensive rendering (in which case you'd have 32-64gb) the speed does not matter with ram. No amount of tabs or AAA games are going to be limited by the available speeds. Go with 3000,its a great price. If you can find it at a lower speed for cheaper then take that

When rendering (in some cases)  and in synthetic benchmarking yeah. None of which is he doing..... So why spend so much more on something that will be wasted. Even if it's for bragging rights, ram speed isn't something someone would critique, only quantity

i have read the QVL from Asus's website about viii impact and z170i pro gaming and the memory doesn't appear..

it should work anyway at 3000, right?.

Yes. The motherboard specs indicate support up to 3400. You will have to select an XMP profile in the BIOS to achieve the rated speed. It will run slower otherwise.

are you sure that will work?, because in the manual of both boards doesn't appear that memory ram that i want.., it doesn't matter?.

The specs on the Z170i Pro shows memory support for 3400 (O.C.).
