Thinking about building a somewhat high-end rig.

klh2000

Hello, I was thinking about finally building a high end, watercooled rig. I am currently running an 8350 and R9 280 (non-x).

My dream machine has always been a watercooled system that is somewhat "future proof" I know that nothing is future proof, but my last "rig" was an athlon XP 2800+ with 1gb of ram. I get my use out of my computers.

Well, here is the pc part picker link: http://pcpartpicker.com/p/7h2wNG

Here are the specs:

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K 3.3GHz 6-Core Processor  ($374.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Motherboard: MSI X99A SLI KRAIT EDITION ATX LGA2011-3 Motherboard  ($249.99 @ SuperBiiz)
Memory: G.Skill Ripjaws 4 series 16GB (4 x 4GB) DDR4-2400 Memory  ($94.99 @ Newegg)
Storage: Samsung 850 EVO-Series 1TB 2.5" Solid State Drive  ($327.99 @ Amazon)
Video Card: Sapphire Radeon R9 390X 8GB Tri-X OC Video Card  ($393.98 @ Newegg)
Case: Corsair 750D ATX Full Tower Case  ($159.99 @ B&H)
Power Supply: Corsair 860W 80+ Platinum Certified Fully-Modular ATX Power Supply  ($177.98 @ Newegg)
Other: EK 360 Kit ($249.99 @ https://www.ekwb.com/shop/ek-kit-l360-r2-0)
Total: $2029.90

For 1, I would really like to know how this is SOMEWHAT high end. And 2 That is actaully a really well balanced rig other than it would be a good idea to go with a 1000 watt psu encase you want to get a second 390X.

Looks pretty solid! With such a high end system, though, I would probably wait till the Nvidia Pascal and AMD Greenland graphics cards. The ones out today are great, but from what I've heard, the huge leap in next gen graphics card performance is enough to justify holding out a bit more (the jump is said to be much higher than the last few generations.) Plus, Broadwell-E and AMD Zen are coming out, so you might be able to get better cpu performance for the same price in a few months. A 8350 and 280 are still quite powerful, and unless you need to upgrade now, I think they would do just fine for a while longer till all of the new stuff has come out. However, if you do need to buy now, I would suggest going with a high quality but much cheaper EVGA G2, and a Phanteks Enthoo Pro, which I think is very comparable to the 750d! That way, for an extra $60, you can go for a 980ti.

I think you could do better for you budget. If you're going to drop 2000 I would consider some different options. Me personally would go with a GTX 980ti. I would just get a 500GB SSD and then use HDD for mass storage. Put your games and apps, plus OS on the SSD and then everything else on the HDD. You have a pretty basic watercooling set up with the EK Kit so maybe save some money and look at the Define S (I attached the video. and I also have this case. Its great quality with tons of room.)

This is what I put together and I think you will get better performance. Using two sticks of RAM versus 4 is usally better when enabling XMP and having stable RAM. Plus it came 200 dollars under your budget so with your watercooling kit you will be right a 2000ish.

Hope this helps!

Dont water cool for performance, water cool for a hobby.  Spending water cooling $$$ on a 980ti and youll get better performance at a fraction of the hassle.

Thanks for all of the replies, but I have a couple requirements:

I won't be very open to chinging the case, the obsidian series is my favorite.

I am doing a custom loop to OC the cpu to what every I can get out of it.

I will never watercool my gpu(s)

The color scheme will be White/Black

Edit: The mass storage will be done on my NAS

Thanks again!
