Would a g3258 equivalent cpu work to run a minecraft server with 1-5 players?

Sure. Make sure you have 2+ GB of memory for the server, though.

I used to be quite active here.

Should be fine. If more people show up though, you'll need a more powerful CPU. As stated above, more RAM is better.

Sure, just OC that bad boy and give it some RAM and it should be good even for >5 people.

Athlon X2 for only 27.31$   Best part lists at different price points   Windows 1.01 running natively on an Eee PC

It should be able to run it easily. Although, if you have a lot of mods or plugins, you might start to see lag.

OC THE HELL OUT OF IT and then add 8GB ram and you are good to go

You should be good with it but as others said oc it, although if you are going to buy a cooler just buy a i3 instead as you'll get more out of it.

If it's just for a server than go with what this guy said, you could most likely get an on x5550 or something of the sorts for super cheap.
