Which brand do you prefer and why?

The old saying goes that its canon for video and nikon for images, but I would like to know what the forum thinks of this.

Neither D4 nor 1Dx is good for filming

this is referring strictly for dslr filming... and i'm strongly surprised with the results I have got so far, it seems we have some nikon fanboys on the forum...

IMO Canon has the better glass, and you can always put Nikon lenses on a Canon body, doesn't work the other way around.

Both will take excellent pics, but yeah I would say Canon takes the win for video.

I'm not a fanboy at all, both manufacturers are excellent, to be honest so are many others.

Yes, those two cameras aren't really good for dslr filming either.

I sold all my Nikon gear last year.

I don't like Canon cameras below the 5D though. I think they are cheaply made and also feel like it.

Canon might have some cheaper glass, definitely not better.

Maybe their cinema lenses for filming, but those are in  a different price range altogether.

I think Nikons glass is consistently good from low budget to high budget. Canons can be pretty bad at the lower end, but the really make up for it at the higher end.

Again this is just opinion, but comparing top end Canon lenses to Nikon, I think Canon takes the slight edge at least at the focal lengths I normally use, but the differences are negligeable.

Also generally speaking equivalent Nikon lenses are usually cheaper than Canons. Nikon definitely build their bodies a little better throughout the range though.

I'm a Nikon shooter, and TBH, the only Canon camera I would consider would be a 1Dx or 5D mkiii, the rest

But, if someone came up to me and said "hey man, want a free D4 or 1Dx? You just gotta pick which one you want"

My answer would be the Nikon, only because I have Nikon lenses already.

If someone offered me them with all the glass I'd ever want, then it's a toss up. They're both great cameras, and I'd be completely fine with either.

Both would be an upgrade to my D80 (which I'm hoping to replace with a D7100).
