Been looking for a new keyboard and I wanted some people's opinions on the Corsair Strafe rgb mechanical keyboard, like this one: http://www.amazon.com/Corsair-Mechanical-Keyboard-Multicolor-CH-9000094-NA/dp/B014W1YRC4/ref=sr_1_21?ie=UTF8&qid=1452491536&sr=8-21&keywords=cherry+mx+brown

Is the build quality nice?

Does it feel like it's built to last?

Brown switches feel good?

Thanks in advanced for anyone's help!

switches are a personal taste
you wont know if you like them without trying them first at a store or with a switch tester or something

quality is great, but its plastic, not metal like the K65/70/95

but i think it should definitely last many years

Yeah I agree. Would HIGHLY recommend K70 over Strafe, Strafe is plastic, K70 is metal.

Does that *actually* matter? I mean, the K70 has a lot of plastic on it anyway, it's not like it's as stiff of a board as something like my custom 60% that has an aluminum plate, in addition to an aluminum case.

It's not like you're taking your keyboard off of your computer to beat people over the head with it... As long as it's on your desk, or you're moving it somewhere, it has the same chances of breaking as the k70 would.

AFAIK the K70 RGB and the Strafe are the same price right now.

If they are the same price, then the K70 might be worth it, although I can't say I believe in paying that large of a premium for a board with RGB that doesn't even offer any non software programming options.

True but some aluminum is better than none, especially for same price.

As I said, if they are the same price, then get the K70. I would say that for the price hike, the K70 (at its normal price) is not worth it over the strafe though.

Whatever you do, don't buy the non-RGB version. It sets my OCD off if my wallpaper isn't black or red...

People keep saying K70...

Aluminium is overrated (and it's only the top). I have an aluminium top keyboard and seriously, no one touches their case every day. It's only important that the switches are mounted on a metal plate, everything else is negligible.

The floating key design is nicer looking and it's easier to clean out. The Strafe is ever so slightly recessed. + K70

The base plate is white on the Strafe which helps it diffuse the LED light better making it look brighter. + Strafe

The strafe has better lighting controllers which will actually hit the full 16.8M colors, the K70 while having the same LEDs only has the ability to hit 512k colors due to cheaper controllers. + Strafe

If you go through some youtube videos you'll see the flickering on the K70 lighting which you won't see on the Strafe. Pple are gonna say you won't notice the flicker IRL, Flicker has been a problem in everything from your LCD screen to your office lighting. There have been improvements to correct that since it does cause problems for many people (including me). + Strafe

A daily bludgeoning of a coworker is the only thing that keeps me sane, and the Strafe has held up just fine. So, I would absolutely agree that the K70 is not worth the extra cash for just a little bit of aluminum. :-)

I have the STRAFE RGB with Cherry MX Brown switches.  Best keyboard I've ever owned, though my only other experience with mechanicals is with a Razer BlackWidow Ultimate with Cherry MX Blues and a Razer BlackWidow Stealth with Razer's Green switches.

The STRAFE does feel sturdy, and the switches are awesome.  I like that it includes the extra keys, but I'm not actually going to use them.

I haven't used the Strafe but I own a Corsair K70 ( non RGB ) and I can say without any reservations that its absolutely wonderful to type and game on - it has Cherry MX reds which I absolutely LOVE !!! - its very good for typing - contrary  to many ppl saying that Blues and Browns are better - it's kinda a personal opinion - I love the REDS for whatever I'm doing .

FWIW - I tried a few keyboards with Cherry MX Browns  and I really didn't like them at all .

I'm biased cause I'm used to the cherry reds but the browns kinda felt a bit like broken Malfunctioning reds.

Also - if you really need RGB then by all means get the Strafe but From what I've seen and experienced - The metal top of the more solid K70 and K70 RGB make for a different experience altogether - I personally will try avoid and keyboard that's Plastic as much as possible - I love the Aluminum top of the K70 and if it ever needs to be replaced I will def get another keyboard that also has a metal top.
