Is this a good CPU?

My friend is telling me that my Intel Core I5-4590 is not that good. The base is 3.3GHz and at turbo, it's 3.7GHz. He's not jealous or anything cause he has a better CPU than me but I was wondering how good my CPU is compared to other CPU's and in gaming especially. A rating out of 10 or something would be nice... Thanks

For gaming, it's about 7-8/10. It's a solid CPU to say the least. Not much behind something like 4690K (stock speeds)

For gaming that CPU is just fine if it is paired with a good GPU. In most games the GPU is more important than the CPU.

lol your friend is being an ass.... your cpu is just fine for any gaming... maybe not like HC 4k maxed out GTA V but yours is fine... to bad it can't overclock though

An i5-4590 is a pretty solid package for gaming and maybe even light content creation. It's not as good as a 4690K or any i7, but for gaming, it's perfectly fine.

 

Of course, since you can't overclock locked Haswell chips, and since it's an i5 and not an i7, I can't say it's a 10 out of 10 chip, but it's up there. I'd say an 8 out of 10.

It's 2.4GHz base clock and 3.4GHz turbo. 

 

EDIT: In terms of pure gaming, your CPU is better. The i7, even though it's a laptop CPU, will still beat the desktop i5 in multi-threaded workloads, as it is hyperthreaded.
