like i said depends on the price. normally 950 is cheaper.

then again, the 370 is a R7 265... so if he can get a nicely used R9 270X, or hell a R9 280/HD7950... well, let me show you the difference.

so, used or new 270X, should be a chance that they have some lieing around that is as cheap or cheaper then a high end 950...

~$105 if bought with a board, $110 if bought w/o a board. My target theme is either black/red or black/gray, Gigabyte has their HD3 model available here.

As for CPU selection.

I fully support a i5 4460 or above, but only if you can get a R9 380/GTX960.  If you have to drop down to a GTX 750Ti or R9 260X to compensate for that, then it simply isnt worth it.

I would definitely try to change whatever you can in the build to get an i5 over an i3 or 6300.

If you need to save a buck, you're talking about an h60 cooler and 4 1tb hard drives.

I went from a hyper212 to a h60 and saw virtually no difference in temperatures.. I only went with the h60 because I got it at a great deal that put it close to the same price as another hyper212 I was looking at for my wife's computer.

And you could get a 2tb hard drive I think and have all the storage you need for a while.. you could look to add another later on when you get close to needing it.

not really. Faster CPU and massively slower GPU is just plain stupid.

 

look. What does linus and every other fucking reviewer on the planet say?

"spend the bulk of your money on the GPU"

 

why do they say this? because even shitty intel Core 2 quads are still capable of pushing most games at reasonable framerates aslong as the GPU is strong. Faster GPU will in 9/10 games show much more improvement in FPS then a faster CPU. This has been the "law" since atleast DX11 came out.

Older DX8,9 and 10 games generally is more CPU intensive then DX11 games.

 

Why? Because despite being quite badly CPU optimized (from the start), DX11 is not that hard to optimize for CPUs... which means most games are fine, CPU wise, but in return is really demanding GPU wise.

 

truthfully. you will have to look very hard to find games that will see more improvements using a better CPU, then a better GPU. REALLY hard. Because there isnt many cases where this holds true

both asrocks are roughly between ~$5-15 cheaper than MSI

Of the two you listed the FX-6300 is the best for your desired goal but you want a decent 6+2 VRM board and not to costly cooler because the stock one is loud... Or you can get a i5-4460 both are way better than a i3 unless it's Skylake i3! ^_^

4460 > FX6300 > 4170

 

but considering the FX costs less then the 4460, you can get a better graphics card, and in 9/10 games, faster graphics cards gives considerably more boost to FPS then faster CPU.

i3-4170 = FX-6300+OC in most cases but for your use the FX-6300 takes the lead and best of all is the i5! :D
