You could probably save a lot by mounting a slab of wood to the wall rather than investing in a desk.

The idea I have in mind uses L-shape brackets on the bottom of the table-surface and wall mounts with multiple screw holes to allow height adjustment, although you'll have to take everything off to adjust the height.

I did something similar.

Just not height adjustable
