Hi so i sold my msi gtx 950 and now i have about $180 to spend on getting a new card. im thinking about a gtx 960 4gb or should i save up another $100 and buy a gtx 970 or should i buy the r9 380 instead of the gtx 960 or the r9 390 instead of the 970. im going to college soon so i dont know if i can have the time to game. any suggestions?

960 4GB is bad value. 380 4GB is better.

970 and 390 are pretty much the same, 970 is just much more efficient power wise and doesn't require large PSU's.

If you just want performance then go with a 380 (like the guy above me said, much better value) or a 390 if you can wait. I myself prefer Nvidia but I can't recommend the 960 because the value is terrible, but the 970 is a wonderful card, if you can wait for it that is.

Neither does a 390. @glitchmaster0001 get a 380, 380x or 390 depending on your budget.

would it be worth it to SLI 2 gtx 960? or just buy 1 970. im more of a nvidia fan for their power efficiency

390 uses basically double the power. Double.

Cool. And? You can run an OC'ed 390x and 4690x on a 550w PSU safely. The difference in cost of use on average per year is not enough to buy a can of beer. In other words, its irrelevant.

Sure. You can run 970 with a 400w though. For example in a mitx build with sfx psu. What's irrelevant is their performance difference. They perform pretty much the same.

General rule is don't go SLI/Crossfire unless you can't get the performance you want out of a single card solution (4k or 144hz 1440P needing sli 980 Tis) or you already have 1 card and get another matching card rather cheap.

The gains with SLI/crossfire are generally not worth the hassle otherwise.

Thats funny. I don't remember reading any of these criteria in the OP. Maybe i cant read or something.

Wait you're the OP now?

I'd also like to know where you get the "double the power consumption from." Who knows? Maybe I'm the one who can't do math.

What the fuck are you talking about? I just pointed out the obvious. 970 is much more power efficient at the same gaming performance. What are you trying to prove?

156 vs 261 is pretty much double. It's 67% more.

Go with the Gtx 960 how says you gonna have alot off time to play. The last 100$ can be used for other things. And the reason you should take the 960 and not the 380 is because it sounds like you want the 960 more than the 380.

A 390 doesn't need a large PSU either. Both can run on 500W PSUs.

That's a really douchey response. Use logic form clear thoughts, don't just say "lmao" and post a gif. Otherwise you lose.

Eh, 500W psu with a 390 will be under stress so that means more noise and stuff. I personally wouldn't run it on such a small unit. It sure can run though, pretty much every current GPU can run on a 500W (295x2 doesn't count)

It's a good thing your feelings are not facts.

Lol what? It's douchey because you say so? Alright buddy. I couldn't take him seriously because he's not worth taking seriously. Let's break this down:

960 4GB is bad value. 380 4GB is better.

970 and 390 are pretty much the same, 970 is just much more efficient power wise and doesn't require large PSU's.

Apparently 550W is a large power supply these days.

390 uses basically double the power. Double.

Makes up shit then calls me a fanboy.

Recommending a card based on criteria that the OP never asked for.

156 vs 261 is pretty much double. It's 67% more.

Changes the English language and makes up his own math.

Why exactly should I take him seriously again? I'm not trying to get internet points from you or anyone else so I don't know what "you lose" means.
