2016 MMOs

Do you think this year we will have a strong new MMO like Black Desert or Blade & Soul etc..

Most of the best MMO's have been running for years already - not sure if anything released now as a fresh new game could come close to matching the amount of content that can be consumed in World of Warcraft for example. Expansions are still being released for existing MMO's, so unless something new comes out with a whole different kind of MMO gameplay system, I don't know if anything will be all that compelling from a feature standpoint.

 

As someone who generally likes the MMO gameplay loop and the potential for that genre of games, it saddens me to think that the games industry as a whole is less interested in exploring that formula.

The division and maybe (if released this year) Everquest Next will be good. Other option of course is World of Warcraft, although that is slipping down hill as blizzard are trying to cater more for the social/occasionals (makes sense from a business model) but the game is getting dubbed down compared to vanilla/burning crusade, I quit a year ago. SWTOR is kinda nice for the story.

if they made an MMO that had the same playing mechanics of Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess, then I would totally play it, but clicking on an enemy and tapping on the number row doesn't sound like my idea of an engaging, interesting PC game.

And "Once Inside, Your Friends Won't Be Seeing Much Of You!" sounds more like a trap sex dungeon rather than badly-animated soft pr0n and jiggle physics to satisfy 13-year-old boys.

wow and ff14 are the only real good ones IMO.  I don't think anything else can compete with them. Again tho, my opinion.

I think Neverwinter might be worth a try then. I didn't much like it, but the place in my heart for mmorpgs died after SW:TOR

I am cautiously optimistic for BDO since it is going b2p. They recently announced the cash/mileage shop, and it isn't p2w. (though I'm sure subject to change)

BnS bored me. The only thing I liked was the little girls.

There aren't any other MMOs that caught my eye.

Having played all of the top Korean MMOs...

Black Desert is insanely advanced compared to anything else. It's truly one of a kind and ahead of its game. It's known for its character customization, but what no

no one talks about is the insanely epic and fun the combat is.

Blade&Soul. It's a good game, character customization is better than TERA (and look how popular that's become) and combat is fun.

I think Black Desert is going to take the NA market by storm, it's scale is unmatched.

Look for Black Desert steams on twitch. Game is very popular in Japan, Russia and Korea. I stream it as well... But i can't give you a link.

I was hooked in MMOs for 5 years and I forced my self out. Now I wouldn't play it unless I would get paid for it... Still the same thing over and over.

I started with MU and it was fun for me back then but when I look back I don't understand why I played that grind fest for so long. WOW almost destroyed my life and I forced my self out of it.

Guild wars 2 was the last short attempt.

I tried few newer MMOs but they didn't entertained me for even a day so I doubt anything will change it now.

BnS is straight up disappointing, it took way, way, way too long to get over here.  BnS was developed mainly to compete against TERA, and while TERA ultimately isn't doing very well in Korea, it's actually way more popular than Blue Hole thought it was going to be in the states.  Now, TERA has pretty much solidified it's position in NA, it's up there in the popular MMO list.  BnS is a newcomer, and IMO it's a very bland game, in fact any game that bases it's endgame around PvP is never going to be as popular as a PvE-centric raiding MMO.

What about a Fallout mmo?

I'm personally a huge fan of action rpgs and think that it has a lot of potential, but then again I think that it would be better if they just let it run wild like minecraft, could you imagine if the had a hunger games mode or something like that, it could be so fun, I just don't really want another ESO. I had fun with ESO but the grind got to me and I just can't play a game like that for more than a few weeks and on top of that the dlcs are overpriced, I would rather have a season pass even if it was $100, I know that they have eso plus but I really don't like subscription based games.
