hello guys,

I was playing game when suddenly my pc froze and stopped responding, so I hard reset my pc but it wont boot to windows. Only motherboard was showing (like I was able to go to bios) and after few more resets windows offers me repair...so I did clean instal of windows on my ssd drive. After that windows was finally working but screen was looking really bad (artifacts all over the place) and after some time it freezes again and same thing with no booting stated again. So i took out my gpu (asus r9 270x) and plugged in cable to motherboard. Boot and first time and still working but I tried to put gpu back and same thing still. So do you think my gpu is dead? (only year and something old) thanks for answers :)

EDIT: comfirmed dead gpu

might be the PCI-E slot or the GPU

I spent $2500 on building my PC and all i do with it is play no games atm & watch anime at 1080p(finally) watch YT and write essays...  nothing, it just sits there collecting dust...

Builds:

The Toaster Project! Northern Bee!

The original LAN PC build log! (Old, dead and replaced by The Toaster Project & 5.0)

sounds like its probably dead especially since it worked when you took it out. You can double check by reseating it and making sure the cables are firmly plugged in. Also check a different PCI slot if possible.

Did you overclock at all?

If not chances are it is a dying gpu or bad pcie slot.

if you have another gpu to test with that would be good.

If there is another pcie slot on your mobo you could try using that.

Most motherboards should have 4x slots that allow 16x PCIe to fit, so you should try to put your graphics card in there if there is a notch that allows you to put your GPU in.

My i5 6500 is bad and can't even maintain 4.5ghz, and 4.4ghz causes it to slowly become unstable over weeks with a vcore of 1.395. FML

Do you have a friend who would let you test out?

If they let you you could borrow their gpu and test it on your pc and/or put your gpu in their pc.

If you can't do any of this then sadface but if you have any other pcie cards (wifi cards, sound cards) then you could try attaching them to the pcie slot and see if they work. Of course if it only appears in like x8 or x16 mode that test wouldn't work.

Your friend doesn't have a psu?

Or are you just saying he doesn't have a powerful enough psu?

Because usually booting up your computer doesn't take too much power.

As well you put his GPU in your pc.

ohhh that's a problem.

Does he have dedicated GPU then? If he does he can just put his gpu in your system. If it works then your GPU is broken, if not it is your pcie slot and you need to rma your motherboard

thanks for all the help but pc repair company I gave gpu to tell if it is broken or no said it is broken. So pcie should be ok. And today I also asked for refund at retailer and hopefully they will give me money back and I will buy gtx 960 probably

Thats weird because it is still a fairly new Card. It may be worth getting an upgrade to an R9 380 maybe. Depends what games you play.

that card was only year and few months old...but this is not first time unusual component broke...2years ago my cpu died. I am not sure about R9 380, I would rather try nvidia this time (960) but i am not sure still

I would say that you should stick to AMD at the moment as a lot of new Nvidia cards have defencts where the in game quality Degrade over time. I would get the R9 380 as it is also 15% better than a 960.

Also true, however AMD driver support is getting better currently.

Sounds like a dead gpu.

Possibly a damaged pcie slot, but not likely.
