A PSU is an important part. I wouldn't skimp on it. And you're pushing it, if you ever want to upgrade, you'll have to buy a whole new psu. So an extra $50 tops now, or another $100+ later.

Your choice.

But a PSU is a pretty 'future proof' piece of hardware if you get extra wattage you don't need. Hence my 750w for 4690k and 750ti I have.

Are you overclocking either the 980ti or the 4790k?

I'd go a bit bigger.

i recommend 650 just because 980 ti, if you want some headroom, but it should be okay

Very good points about over clocking. I will definitely go for the 650 watt. or even the 750 watt.

Huh? For a single 980Ti, a 550G2 will easily handle your system, even with overclocking.

Desktop: Intel Core i5 2380P (2400 w/o iGPU), MSI H61, 8GB RAM, 256GB SP610, 500GB WD Blue, HIS R9 280, Antec TruePower Classic 550W, Inwin MANA 134, QNIX QX2710, CM QuickFire Rapid, Logitech G402

Laptop: Toshiba Satellite L40D, AMD A6-6310, 6GB RAM, 500GB HDD, Radeon R4 Graphics, 14" 1366x768

Phone: iPhone 6 Space Gray 64GB, T-Mobile $60/mo 3GB plan

well yes you are right but it will be pushing 550 watts, leaves no room for upgrades

It would only push 550w with extreme oc'ing and a similarly power hungry cpu.

I don't see a single gpu pulling more power than a 980 Ti any time soon.

If you plan to add another card for sli, that would be a good reason to get a bigger psu. Otherwise, 550w is already more than enough for any single gpu.
