Strange GTX 980

Hey a friend of mine sent me a picture with a very strange GTX 980. It's not his PC, it's the one of his friend, but does it really exist?

It's a GTX 980 12gb ????   where the hell does this monster come from?????

I tried to find it on the internet but couldn't get anything.

Does he perhaps have 6GB of system RAM?   I have seen programs mess up before.

Your friend can get a 12GB 980 but somehow he has to use a potato to take his screenshots for him...

I'm pretty sure that's normal.

I have a 2GB card and dxdiag shows it as 6058MB.

A 12GB GTX 980 does not exist.

Why is he purposely blanking out the Geforce experience reading? Makes it look suspect.

it's the system vram, it depends on how much ram you have

Hmm, I have 'approximately 4037MB' VRAM according to DxDiag. Relatively useless!

Dxdiag does show something else. My 6GB 980Ti shows 22 GB.

 

Dxdiag shows the total amount of memory designated for graphics, that consists of dedicated (6GB for my 980Ti, 4GB for your 980) and system shared memory. Detailed picture in spoiler.
