Zen profits won't be registered in the shareholder report until Q1 (i.e. March) 2017 if they start selling them in Q4 2016. Earnings in quarterly reports always lag 1-2 quarters behind the release of a new product.

As Lisa Su herself has admitted the pathway to significant profits is Zen and becoming competitive again in the CPU market.

Because AMD is slwoly bleeding out year after year ATI was doing way better than AMD is currently.

If they do not turn it around soon they will get bought out by someone as they are loosing worth non stop and are currently pocket change for companies like Intel, Samsung, or Microsoft.

Crippled AMD with a market cap of 1,6 billion just hurts the entire industry and is the reason why high end GPU's are getting sold at $700-1000 now when in 2010 dual GPU cards like the GTX590 where priced at $599.

All it needs to do is compete at different price levels effectively, which is what the current 300 series lineup already succeeds at. So what AMD really needs to do is get better at marketing and working with 3rd party hardware suppliers (Freesync, HDR), and game developers to optimise for AMD and game bundles with card purchases.

And sell low end oem gpus for laptops and desktops, as well as their apu socs.

That's what makes real money.

 

They don't have enough resources to compete against intel's offerings and their server space.

That's why they are pushing for their own arm servers to be used to store tons of data.

 

Honestly if I was running amd, fuck this market and go the second best one.

It's like intel expecting to go against ibm and cisco, There is a reason companies like those are lasting. They stay in one market and only do one thing.

 

This idea that a semi conductors company should be doing too many things at once and their whole financial stature is based off one micro architecture is plain stupid.

Less players in the market is not a good scenario. If anything: you should hope a third party picks up AMD.

RTG itself is already competitive with Nvidia, alas the market share says otherwise. It's the core AMD that needs to step up their game and we'll see if that holds true later in the year.

The funny thing is AMD isn't really in need of more engineers. They need more and better sales and marketing.

And if Intel gains AMD's GPU IP + RTG they would probably destroy Nvidia in GPUs too. They would also most of the time have a fabrication advantage so Nvidia (or anyone) is handicapped trying to match them. Whereas Nvidia and AMD are always on the same process node which is part of the reason why they always trade blows.

I actually agree. An RTG backed by Intel money and Intel fabs could very well be so disruptive that Nvidia would fall behind. There's also the fact that Intel has the ability to play more dirty than Nvidia can. Although I can imagine it would take at least some years for Intel to really get the ball rolling but when it does, it would be hard to stop.

 

But still, I really don't think people should hope for AMD to be split up between the two if they want a healthy market. Sure, they could potentially be fierce competitors but there's also the chance that they'll just make shady deals since they're the only two left.

Yes but the GTX980ti has 6gb which for 4k is the minimum 4gb does not cut it. Also the temps would get out of hand if you OCed the Fury X as it is hot with the AIO cooler

That's funny, because GCN pushes for computational performance. You know, something that's actually useful in the wide industry.

Maxwell is useful for gaming and that's fucking it.

 

AMD also had pushed tech that's extremely useful but sold like ass on the server market (pretty much the 2 cores/1 floating point unit).

 

What has Intel pushed in the past 6 years? "Lower" TDPs?

Nvidia? Sure as hell gaming performance doesn't help the computing industry any.

With not FPS to compare with all I see is at 4K the 4gb is almost and in some cases maxed out bottlenecking the card. I like to see jumps in future tech but 4gb for a flagship wasn't the wisest idea.
