Yeah there's still games being made with only DX9 support since their audience is on old ass hardware.

Bingo! Nvidia has nothing to worry about because no developer or publisher will make a game that fucks over 80% of the market.

Nothing to see here folks, move along, move along.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

OK yes I guess all advertising is that bad... I think tech stuff just sticks out more to me for some reason... idk why

Probably it's because you're more into tech so you have a higher chance of spotting BS when it's there.

OK yes I guess all advertising is that bad... I think tech stuff just sticks out more to me for some reason... idk why

probably because thats what your area of interest is, so pretty much all ads you see will be about tech

but out there in the real world there is advertising FAR worse than anything you could imagine

stuff that makes a smart person think "why the hell are they not arrested and shot for this"

so i wouldnt criticize either AMD or nvidia on their false advertising...

I'd criticize AMD, Intel, and Nvidia for false advertising. I shouldn't have to rely on third-party sources to rationalize my purchasing decisions. Fuck, Bose even is guilty of doing this as well.

True.  And honestly the worst tech ads I've seen are typically laptops and some displays (I don't really have any specific examples of nvidia or amd or intel doing bad ads, but I know they have).

Uh, you should always assume that any information coming from the manufacturer themselves is biased and you should always rely on third party sources to confirm or refute that information

Making a purchasing decision based on what the manufacturer tells you is one of the worst things you could do

The goal of the manufacturer is to make money, not to make accurate ads

I fully agree. Until the manufacturers starts to put out unbiased, honest marketing material (Which I think they should), I will never, ever listen to their horseshit.

Yeah it is never hard to be honest if you put it into perspective. But the manufacturers makes it look hard, when it isn't.

Because people buy based off price. seriously, look at how people buy their graphics cards. Cheapest card with the most fps, nothing else matters. Remember when quality mattered? How about where it was made? If you showed someone from my childhood how people make their purchases now they'd call you a liar.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Yeah which in my opinion, is sad. In my family, I feel like I make the most rational buying decisions with long criteria lists, while making sure the prices are within my budget (which are pretty big since you'll find really good items in those price brackets).

Why would any of that affect how truthful marketing should be/is?

Confirmation bias, and a lack of responsibility on the part of consumers to research more than price on the products they buy.

Odd example. Oreos, my brother loves the things. When the factory was moved out of the country costing jobs, he didn't care. When I showed him a local product that tasted better and helped the local economy, he didn't care.

People only care when they're affected personally, and then they wonder why no one listens to them. Companies know this, they pray on this and we let them.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

Yep, and I feel like my parents are biased to a lot of things, namely AMD and Bose. They think that AMD processors are at the same level to Intel, but cheaper (Which we all know for a fact that that isn't true. Even AMD admitted to how shitty their FX CPUs are) and Bose (Style over substance. There are better products than Bose for a similar price)

I hear ya. My wife just got a laptop and her mother wanted her to buy a Alienware, want to know why? Those guys on Big Bang Theory use them so they have to be good, right?

And that's why I don't watch TV, at all...

She got a MSI, fucking sweet.

The irony here is that MSI is one of the worst for making misleading product pages of their laptops.

Solve your own audio issues  |  First Steps with RPi 3  |  Humidity & Condensation  |  Sleep & Hibernation  |  Overclocking RAM  |  Making Backups  |  Displays  |  4K / 8K / 16K / etc.  |  Do I need 80+ Platinum?

If you can read this you're using the wrong theme.  You can change it at the bottom.

Completely, but the Skylakes are out so that's what's being pushed. She was able to get a 970m verses a 960m.

And we're kind of screwed where laptops are concerned. All of the manufacturers are dicks. But lucky for me she trusts me and I'm even surprised what she got for her budget.

If anyone asks you never saw me.

IMHO, the only ones that are screwed are consumers. How screwed? It ranges from negligibly screwed to FUBAR screwed.

In what ways are they screwed?

In what ways are they screwed?

At the end of the day, we can buy the most powerful GPU today and one or two things can, could, and/or would happen:

1.) Developers are still gonna release unoptimized games that may not even be fixed in a few months, but ultimately favor one company's GPU over the other anyways.

2.) GPU manufacturers are gonna imbalance-ly shift manpower in terms of supporting hardware, thus our biggest baddest GPU today could be given significantly less driver support when the new one comes out to the point that its toddler version could beat our biggest baddest GPU today. I know, new architecture and all, but the software weighs and counts more on the hardware.

Okay here's one question about games: Poorly optimized games (Batman: Arkham Knight) or games that pushes the limits of hardware specifications (Crysis 1)?

The second one doesn't need much explanation. Kepler isn't getting that much support now compared to Maxwell. But you gotta know that I'm on my 670M and it's still holding up to the games I play. The next two games I will be adding are Rise of the Tomb Raider and DOOM 2016.

The first one: Crysis 1 was arguably not even well optimized. Plus, if we're talking about 2015 (since there's not much to talk about thats happened in 2016 yet), even Witcher 3 had its fair share of bugs and glitches (things that happen regardless of what settings you're on, or even what platform you're on), as well as Fallout 4, Arkham Knight, the list goes on on and on.

The second one: In Witcher 3, if I turn a specific setting on, why does it make sense for a 960 to destroy a 780 Ti? For those who bought a 780 or a 780 Ti, I think its fair enough that a 970 trades blows with it, but not to the point a 960 can beat those cards. Seems like negligent driver support to me.

If Crysis 1 scaled well in performance going from a midrange card to a high-end one, then why would you call it unoptimized when it has over a million lines of code (equating to almost 3,000 pages of code) 1GB of texture data, and 85K shaders? It makes no sense to me that Crysis 1 wasn't well optimized when you bring in the complexity of CryEngine 2 (Which was the engine used in Crysis 1). And The Witcher 3 does scale well in terms of performance with GameWorks turned off going from midrange to high end at whatever settings you're going after.

The bugs are due to negligence of the developers not putting in enough time to squish them out before bringing the product to market.

In its time, the game was so demanding on previous computer hardware that the catchphrase "Yeah, but can it run Crysis?" was frequently added to graphics card reviews.

For a game released in 2007, you'd expect something like a 960 being able to run it. Its had years for the drivers to mature, and I'm pretty sure some patches to the game as well from Crytek themselves if we use GPU's today compared to even the likes of a 580. Was it optimized? Debatable. And yeah, still, whichever setting that was turned on or off, it still doesn't make sense a 960 beats a 780 or a 780 Ti. What a way to screw with customers and push them to pay for Maxwell. I'm pretty sure not everyone who owns a Kepler card is willing to do that.

The bugs and glitches pretty much count for lack of optimization. Optimization isn't and shouldn't be only synonymous to FPS and/or smoothness or stuttering. I mean, look at Warframe. It has stable FPS. But for goodness sakes, its still filled with bugs and glitches. If anything, optimization should also mean a game should be refined to the point that bugs and/or glitches like randomly falling off of a map and stuck into a falling animation, getting stuck in a corner as if you're trapped by an invisible cage, or even your field of view is drastically affected (I could list more, but that game is buggy and glitchy to this day... its just that there's much less of it today, but still significantly buggy) should happen every 1/100000000 times, not 1/100 times (in Warframe, sometimes a bug happens 1/100 or even everytime.).
